Zotac 970? - Page 16

If anyone wanted to know, you can flash an Extreme BIOS to an Omega. Just did it thanks to rv8000 for sending me his BIOS.

I tested a few 970s and they all hit 1500. The vanilla Zotac was actually one of the fastest I used and it had the smallest voltage bump at +37mv. All the shorty pcb cards are very restricted right now but one can still get 1500/2000 out of them.
Thanks!

Whoops, I think I'm going to edit my Newegg review of this card after testing now. I still gave it 5 stars but in the negative comments I said it wasn't a great overclocker lol. Here I thought I knew what I was doing and really had no clue. I did drop down that triangle in MSI Afterburner and saw temp limit, but I thought I had read that it made no difference..

So by smallest voltage bump, you mean the +37mv is automatic as in not applied in MSI Afterburner. Other manufacturers are already bumping higher.. got it.

No change in any way. Other than base clocks.

Same here, have it prioritized to temp, which made sense to me since temp would in no way be an issue. My power hovers around 117% but the card is constantly trying to reduce that to the 106% limit thus reducing the voltage and such which makes it unstable... It's pretty clear I'm limited by power here and it's not going to hit 1500mhz until I can unlock the power limit. but thanks for the help.

Not even the power limit??? The fancy Zotacs still have 106% power slider???

It will never change until they release a BIOS update. Or someone is able to flash a custom.

I highly doubt Zotac is going to free up any of the limits on the vanilla 970. It is a little weird that even the higher tier 970's are locked down just as much as the vanilla card though. I think there is a chance they do something to free up the AMP and OMEGA in which case I could flash those BIOS's to the vanilla and be free.

I think (or hope rather) we have a better chance of seeing custom/modified BIOS's. I just need to find the patience until that option is cracked.

Could those Zotacs also be held back by the heatsink of the VRMs? It doesn't really have a whole lot of surface area.

Either way I don't mind the power limit as much since it's one of the more affordable 970's out there and it has one of the few coolers that would actually fit inside my short case.
