Nah the sink of mine is actually screwed on. But that silver heatsink looks crappy ...

Looks like they changed the cheap arse and ineffectual silver sink to the meaty black one.

As if it matters with the power limit they have in place.

I considered buying the vanilla zotac 970 because its a lot cheaper and its small. Only problem is the temps and noise. Adding to the problem, ambients here are always 30C+. It is likely the card will be throttling even at stock speeds and the fan will be spinning its nuts of and there is no possiblity of a decent overclock.
Seeing the card has high temp delta values, I think its best to go with a bigger card with better cooling.

I have to say that I really lucked out with the temps on my card. Idling at pretty much room temperature +4C and then capping out 65C or less, overclocked and under full load. I do have a large case with excellent air flow though (Antec 902). I only wish there was a BIOS update that could keep the voltage stable at 1.212V. I'm pretty sure that's all most of us need to have the overclocks stable at ~1500MHz core.

What is your room ambient temp?

I also have Zotac GTX 970, the small form factor one. I have it overclocked 1216 (boost 1418)/7600. I think my card can still go higher as this is the first value I set when I got it and it is stable and I did not bothered myself with trying more. I don't see any point as all games are running silky smooth at 1920x1200 (ultra settings). My card is idling at 34C (ambient was 24C yesterday). My max temperature while playing Alien Isolation on Ultra for some hours is max 73C. Vents are operating at around 55% then. That is around 2000RPM when at full load under Alien Isolation. I use auto profile for fans under Firestorm. They are quiet and practically silent if I compare this when I had HD6870 in my machine. I'm also happy as I do not have any coil whine with my Zotac GTX 970.

Card is reaching also 80C but I manage to achieve this only when running Valley benchmark test on Extreme HD. Also benchmark score for Valley is decent (2560) as I have this card in my oldie but goldie machine: Asus P5E, Intel Xeon 3360@3.4GHz, Team Group Extreem Dark DDR2 800MHz.

best, d.

I can confirm after downloaded the Omega bios off Tech power up and loading in KBT that it is indeed set to a max TDP of 345W,

I am taking delivery of my Extreme 970 today at about 1 ish (GMT) so as soon as I get chance I will rip the bios off it and have a look at see if it is the same, I expect it will be, I will also upload it to Tech power up ( If someone hasn't done it already which I expect they have).

Oh and I am also getting the new version of Firestorm (V1.0.44.001 as opposed to V1.0.44.000) today from Zotac support if anyone is interested, It allows for over 1.212 Vcore voltage. The bios across all Zotac 9 series cards are locked to a max of 1.212 for some reason and you can only override it using this new version of Firestorm.

I have had to jump through hoops for this card it has best be all I expected. biggrin.gif

I'm not surprised it's hitting high temps since these cards are supposed to boost until it hits a voltage or heat wall.
