Non-Reference GTX 980 - Page 12

I'm still rather disappointed in EVGA for not having the triple display ports because a pair of these cards could provide some serious firepower for g-sync surround, but given that they went with the old 780 display connectors you're given no choice but to go with three GPUs, which is something I know I'm not willing to do (sorry, not spending $2k CAD on a triple card setup, especially since it would also force spending another $160 CAD to go with the 5930k).

Benching is fun and all, but exactly where on EVGA's site does it state that they were made SPECIFICALLY for benching, and just benching/extreme cooling alone? Looking at the 780 Classified's product page the very first sentence in the product description states "The EVGA GeForce GTX 780 marks an evolution in gaming performance", but no mention at all. The 780 Ti Classified's page talks about gaming performance in the first two paragraphs, and then "unbelievable overclocking potential" in the third. The only card I can find on their website that even mentions extreme cooling is the 780 Ti Classified Kingpin Edition (it's mentioned in the fourth paragraph)

Most of the wording on all the Classified pages I looked at (780, 780Ti, 780Ti Kingpin) focus a great deal on the additional gaming performance as well as how well they overclock.
Pretty much the biggest reason I picked up my Classified. I didn't have any plans for SLI at the time, and I liked that the Classifieds had a lot of potential out of the box, not to mention headroom for even more if one so chooses.

well the thing is the extreme overclocking market doesn't account for a ton of sales so they have to also appeal to gamers so that the sales are respectable. These cards are great for gaming but they do have a lot of features that are great for benching also.

EVGA has great community support and releases a lot of tools thru the community that will allow much greater voltage control on these cards for benching. They will probably be limited to about 1.5v but that is still about .3v more than any other company. Usually with a bit higher pwm setting you can get close to 1.5v.

I wouldn't imagine them using the Kingpin brand on this small die 980 but I can't wait to see the big die Kingpin card. That should be amazing and voltage should be completely unlocked.

I'm happy to see that it has an analog output -- I think I can get another year out of my good old GDM-FW900. I was hoping to hold on to it until SED or FED displays become availble, but that doesn't seem too likely.

There's a evga gtx 980 classified for quite a lot of money on ebay but on the up side it's showing the delivery date as 21st to the 23rd of October so I think we have the exact release date. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/321528527829?nav=WATCHING_ACTIVE

Old I/O with less outputs is a massive mistake and these cards are too expensive to skimp on such a feature. If you can afford 1 or 2 or 3 of these cards, then you should be able to afford to upgrade your old DVI-D monitor.

Edit: I should also note the Hyrdo Copper is coming with the new I/O.

Evga has just responded with this email reply.

Your Answer:

Hi,

pre-ordering is unfortunately not possible but the plan shows that the Classified version will be release in 6-8 weeks from now, no exact date as of today though.

Kind Regards,

Damn why such a delay?

In the mean time I looking in to some 970 SLI options instead,I prefer to use one card but 970 SLI is just Beastly.

I've just realised I didn't cancel my 2 evga gtx 980 sc and they have just been dispatched I didn't rush to cancel them because they told me yesterday on the phone that they had no idea when they would have any stock in then I thought I'm Defo going to get the classifieds now next day they dispatched them what do I do? What is that evga policy on a 3 month upgrade thingy anybody know? Thanks.
Shame about the I/O would much prefer the reference one and simply OC a reference card, I do not see the huge appeal with the Classifieds this time round.
