MSI failed on the lightning on the 780 Lightning compared to EVGA who actually did quite well with their 780 Classy and 780Ti Classy. MSI even dropped the whole 780Ti Lightning and only made a few cards that was for R&D and overclocking for their "overclocking staff"

The only thing the 780 Lightning failed at was that initially a lot of cards came with Elpida RAM. Other than that, the card is perfectly fine.
MSI couldn't release the 780 Ti to the public because Nvidia's Greenlight program wouldn't let them release unlocked cards, that's Nvidia's fault. Evga just ignored that because they only make Nvidia cards, so they get some special treatment from Nvidia.

As for MSI not releasing the 980 Lightning, I would say it wasn't worth their time. Evga did it anyways because they are Nvidia specific OEM, if they don't push their products based on Nvidia's new design, they'll go out of business, while Msi has more sales because they also sell AMD cards, so they can choose to be picky.

Yea idk why every one claims this, only issue if you want to call it one was Elpida ram,Other then that the card was just ridiculously overbuilt and i enjoyed it while i had it.

This is what I fear about this Classy too. It may come unlocked but if it's TDP is crap (as was 780TI Classy as an example) and you can't get this changed then you're in trouble.

the strix has some bios's and tools out that should unlock the power limit. The 780 ti classy was easily unlocked very fast.

Plus there are some pretty easy hard mods posted for fooling the power limit so unlocked voltage would still be very helpful.

I think I will wait until the 980 classy releases and then decide. Maybe by then it will be worth it to wait for big maxwell, hopefully that's the next time we see a Kingpin card. The strix does look amazing though and there are some bios's out and tools to raise the voltage.

Same, guess I'll stick with my 3 unlocked 290s until something worth buying comes out.

From the sound of it, there's another 4 weeks to just get a classified, then have to wait again for someone to make a water block for it. Mehhhhhhhhhhhh. Guess I'll put the 1200 towards car upgrades this year. That covers almost half the cost of an air ride for my bug smile.gif
