GTX 970 Folding Numbers! - Page 20

Some interesting things to consider if using Linux and a GTX 970 to fold. On Linux Mint Cinnamon I averaged 265K PPD, on Ubuntu 14.10 it was 275K PPD, and now on Linux Mint MATE I am at 281K PPD. Stock clocks on driver version 343.36.

Work in progress, Future Rig. 7 Strix 970's GPU Renderer. I'll be running 2/3/2 Watercooling bridge across the top of the cards. 4 cards sitting there now. missing the ones in the middle. Cannot wait to fire her up.

@scubadiver59 was only able to get a max of 5 cards folding if I'm not mistaken.

Why so small? I mean really? You could have built a proper sized and larger system. This is just too tiny with not enough GPU's...

pretty cool project you got there.

Is there a way to have Linux installed on USB which I just boot to when I kick off folding? I don't want Linux on my SSDs as I won't use it but everyone is talking about getting nice increase using it.. I know I can just use USB installer for example Linux mate mentioned above, but this doesn't have drivers or does it?

Sometimes i have 300k PPD with my 970, other times it's ~20-70k - how can i make sure that i only get the 300k ppd workloads?

Folding through linux will net your 970 about 300,000 ppd, because the maxwell cards will only receive Core 17 work units. Folding through windows though the 970 will get Core 17's, core15's and core 18's, for less ppd.

Just one more reason Linux is better. If it weren't for gaming I would abandon WinBlows altogether.

Maxwell cards are temporarily barred from receiving Core 18 units.

As undesirable as Core 15 units are, I wouldn't mind folding them right now. It would be better than sitting completely idle.

Why would they give you bad ones, though, and why change it OS to OS? Does everyone with certain hardware need to use Linux to fold properly?

As undesirable as Core 15 units are, I wouldn't mind folding them right now. It would be better than sitting completely idle.

Setup a dual boot into Windows... and use both. Its what lots of us have to do. Hopefully, as Linux becomes more popular the porting will get a little better for stuff like games. I so wish my games would work in Linux...

... that would be frustrating though.mad.gif

Linux is written better; based on Unix Operating system... it just works more efficiently (and just plain better, except for gaming) as I understand it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
