Note: We do not have a list of minimum requirements for the game. If you're trying to play with a rig with settings below these requirements (you should plan to have 4 GBs of VRAM regardless), we cannot guarantee optimal performance.

Recommended PC System Specifications
  • 64-bit Windows 7/Windows 8
  • i7 with four plus cores
  • 4 GBs RAM
  • 50 GB of hard drive space*
  • GeForce GTX 670 or equivalent with 4GBs of VRAM

Talking with folks on the team, you can give it a go with 2 GB VRAM, but it's definitely not recommended. As mentioned in the blog post, we're not posting minimum requirements, because we're looking to share requirements that show the game the way it was meant to be played.

and apparently it was all a lie

Minimum requirements for The Evil Within can now be found below. You won't be experiencing the game at 1080p and you'll likely need to turn off some features, but you will still be able to have a great experience with the game.

Minimum Requirements
OS: windows 7/8.1
GPU: GTX 460 or an equivalent 1 GB VRAM card
CPU: i7 or an equivalent 4+ core processor
RAM: 4 GB
HDD: 50 GB

This will change, everyone knows that.

Do you people not know intel et al pay devs to say i7, etc.? Hell AMD probably paid them to say 4 GB VRAM is recommended.

Wait till the required specs drop.

consoles are running on 8 Gb RAM on a low end tablet CPU + a mid end GPU. Assuming the system ram take up to 3-4GB, that still leaves 4Gb on Vram @ 720p/1080p for Game developers to play with, they could very well optimize the game with high resolution textures & other stuff.

if PC owners are going to run higher resolution with AA applied, dont be surprise that u would be needing 6-8Gb vram.

basically games in the future will be optimized for

low 8 threaded CPU
high RAM/VRAM usage
mid end GPU speed.

A bit OT, but out of sheer curiosity I just watched the trailer/gameplay videos. I'm all for a decent horror game but what is this? Clearly running off ideas from F.E.A.R., Amnesia, and throwing in a very poor combat system (imo). The trailer and initial gameplay lack context, and the first play through scene contradicts itself many times over through the movement of this random chainsaw dude; he's a dumb oaf while your actually in game, yet in cutscenes he's flying down hallways bloodthirsty as all heck? I don't get how this could have any appeal to someone...

Looks decent graphically otherwise, bar the character models.

congrats...$1K 18 months later in the bank account would've yielded 980 tri-SLI that probably run circles around your card

sorry for being logic nazi/party pooper but be happy with your purchase; you don't need to justify it to us

That's just stupid.

"You should plan on having 4GB VRAM regardless"??? So they're going to alienate literally 95% of their PC market?

Methinks this statement was made by someone who doesn't understand the difference between RAM and VRAM.

"4GB of RAM required? Sounds reasonable. What about VRAM?"

"Uhhh... 4GB too?"

But then I wouldn't have enjoyed my cards these past 18 months. The point is, I've been enjoying them and 18 months later they still kick ass.

If only you'd known the 980 was coming!

12GB Titan 2 can't come soon enough.
Why? If it's for textures, then after a point, it's just a waste. You can only see so much resolution on a 1080P monitor.

If it's for fancy shmancy image quality improvements, then isn't it just as likely that you'll run out of GPU power before VRAM usage? Even current games with GREAT texture resolution work with less than 6GB VRAM on 3-monitor surround.
