Thats 2 game comfirming the need of over 3gb yet not so long ago if you said that this would exactly happen every 780ti owners would take a pleasure explaning to you how "wrong" you where.

Kinda sad even high end cards like the 980 won't even meet the requirement. I just wonder if it's going to impact that much how textures look.

Sounds to me like a laziness issue more than a quality texture situation. If the developers know they have 3-5 gigs of Vram to play with they probably won't compress textures or optimize things as much...

I'm not upgrading my 7950s for another year at least. I'll really see how my "lack" of Vram affects my gaming experience....

i believe this is absurd. The most advanced GPUs now are 4GB "yes there are 6GB' but they are special editions.. either this ultra settings look super impressive with tons of details or it's terribly optimized and i tend to believe in the later. devs are as usual so lazy with imports optimization ....

This game looks like it might be be able to have awesome visuals with massive textures, but a game developed by JP studio that is primarily a ps3/360 title that is being ported to PC/PS4/Xbone? I'll give Mordor the benefit of the doubt but Evil Within is just a joke list of "recommended" specs.

Though I guess Evil Within could be the new GTA IV and a new benchmark of atrocious ports! 3GB will still be fine for the conceivable future and won't be truly needed for another year or two save for maybe a handful titles.

I said how a $700 card with only 3gb of vram was rubbish at launch of the 780ti. yes performance was good but you can get 3gb of vram on a 7950 for $200. GTX 690, 2gb of vram was awful even then. Some say but but games didn't require it but I looked at what I wanted to do with settings and mods and value and thought NVidia is awfully tight with their vram, do not want.

Also more importantly 780ti SLI has so much GPU power and a tiny amount of vram its shocking to me anyone would bother. Such a waste of GPU power like the 690 was not long after. Instead of supporting that you should've got 680 4gb for SLI instead of a 690

A $700 GPU released 10 months ago should come with 6gb of vram, I don't care what you say. its poor value and its about time NVidia started upping their game. 970 is not bad

This doesn't surprise me at all. I've been saying since 2012 that with the new consoles coming the GTX 600 and 700 (the ones based on GK104) series' 2 GB of VRAM wasn't going to be enough and why I wouldn't buy one of those cards.

I think there's a significant difference between Shadow of Mordor asking for 6 GB for ultra textures, yet scaling down to 1 GB on low, and The Evil Within not even being guaranteed to run properly on less than 4 GB. Even if 6 GB is unrealistic now, it will increase the longevity of the game because it will take longer before the textures get outdated. Crysis could not realistically run at max settings on a single GPU card when it released, but that also made it live much, much longer than it otherwise would have. This ultra texture option will also largely eliminate the need for "HD texture mods" that are so prevalent in many other games.

I am sure that The Evil Within will have a lower texture quality option since they insist that 4 GB is the recommended requirement to play the game "as the developers intended", but it doesn't really say anything about the actual requirement, it could need just 512 MB to run at high texture settings and the developer could still claim that the 4 GB ultra setting is needed for the "optimal playing experience" (completely ignoring that playing the game with low resolution textures is better than not playing it at all). It is a huge mistake by Bethesda/Tango not to give us minimum requirements.

Ridiculous. Although I will not play this game because of other reasons, I see this only as a gimmick to get people to buy more cards/better cards.

But to think that 2GB are no longer enough...

I commend developers for upping the recommended hardware requirements to push a long PC hardware. But I doubt this game requires 6GB+ of VRAM for its ultra textures.

1.) It's a fairly small game and games bigger than it doesn't consume anywhere close to 6GB of VRAM.

2.) Many "next-gen" games that had absurd recommended hardware requirements turned out to be all lies. Just look at Watch Dogs.

So high end and top end cards. On average not everyone has those. They don't care to optimize the games much anymore. I suppose it's cheaper for them. If the game looked incredible i could understand. But that's not the case, the graphics are nothing special.

It's the way both Crossfire and SLI work (it doesn't matter if the GPUs are on the same PCB or not). And why someone with 780 Ti's in SLI is going to be feeling awkward very soon. Lots of GPU power and only 3 GBs of VRAM. There are no 780 Tis with 6 GB of VRAM because Nvidia wanted that feature to further separate the Titan Black from the 780 Ti.

You did, I remember people saying that, but the truth is that it's almost 2 years later and most people will be upgrading their cards (if they hadn't already since then) if they run into a game that VRAM becomes an issue in. A few shoddy console ports (yet to be shown to actually need the VRAM capacity) wouldn't be worrying me much if I still owned a 2GB card (last one I owned was a GTX 670 a loooong ways back).

6gb vram for high res textures? I hope its over 8k textures otherwise is a poor job from ubisoft...
