Acrylic Bending or Adapter Fittings? - Page 2

For measuring i can recommend the set from Monsoon... Without bending experience for me measuring is the easiest part now. Even for complex bends that I have in my tight Parvum case that set made it really easy...

Bends, even though they are a pain. (Buy extra tubing!)

I measured using a metal clothes hanger wire bent into a template shape. You could also use something like pipe cleaners.

I didn't find the measuring tools in the monsoon all that useful since they are just one dimension. I use the Monsoon bending mandrels themselves as measuring tools.

Thread Starter
I ordered 3 50 cm of acrylic tubing and the kit on Friday night.

Awesome, and just letting you know, I think Bitspower tubing is on discount at performance pcs

But they are not just "one dimension" are they? See Dr m4rc3l's post above yours:

They are not one dimension. With all the ruler-like parts and angles you can kind of simulate the whole way for a pipe. And with the mandrel set you don't even need to calculate bending factors and stuff...
I bought the whole set for measuring and bending and it also included a heat gun. All that for the price of 4 bits power fittings. So it saved me a lot of money and a lot of time. Even though I had to redo a lot of pipes, cause I applied too much heat or to much pressure to the bends... But i get better with every bend 😁

It is too hard to account for tubing width and depth when using flat measuring tools. I did use them for one build but have found just holding the mandrel to a piece of acrylic in the case works a lot better. I can mark exactly where I need to start the bend and where it will come out of it. I do the rulers to help assist w/ this but I don't screw them together anymore. I like to think I did a passable job w/ this method.

Nice job, but still: you just measure the center neutral thread of the pipe. Don't need to calc k factors if you use the mandrels for your tube size. Then draw the lines on your working surface and fix the mandrels to it. And then you just bend....
Even tubes with 3x90 degree bends and 45 degrees were easier than I thought in advance

Dunno the link just now but there's a great tutorial video on YouTube from monsoon that explains that better than I can... Will post it if I find it.
