Ah OK I didn't realize that you had 5820 K - Very nice - I have one!

What I meant to say was X99 Professional i7 has Intel turbo max technology 3 - Where as the Extreme 4 & Fatal1ty do not - As I've learned a bit more about computers [novice builder] I find I am liking and appreciating AsRock a lot more.

How does the VRM [voltage regulator module] differ on Pro i7 vs Fatal1ty ? - 12 phase isn't it? - Isn't it the same on all three? - Maybe Fatal1ty X99X has the edge due to OC'ing but i7 Professional has Wi-Fi / 3.1 / and OC socket [like Asus] - But they're both great

With you having 5820 K you don't get turbo max 3 technology [only one core?] - Is Intel turbo 2 technology on all cores?

What are the views here on the differences? - Price difference the Fatal1ty X99 is around +80-90 more expensive than the Extreme 4

Hi there

Depends, are you looking to OC cache if yes then I would go with Fatal1ty X99, otherwise they're very similar boards, personally have ASRock X99 Extreme6 which is pretty awesome board, no issues, running 4.5Ghz at 1.279v etc and no issues

Hope this helps

Thanks, Jura

Have you looked at the x99 ASRock Taichi? That's what I have, it's pretty feature-full for the price:

Hi- It looks really good - I've got both the X99 Extreme 4 & Fatal1ty X99X Killer motherboards so can't get another just yet - But later on with the next chipset or platform when and if they include THUNDERBOLT 3 over USB-C - Then I would get one - cheers.gif

Gigabyte tends to do Thunderbolt 3 more often on their HEDT range, there was a board not too much more than that one in price with that feature on x99...

Yeah Gigabyte did a Designare - and others with Thunderbolt included on the motherboard itself - But AsRock X99 Extreme 4 / Fatal1ty X99X Killer / Fatal1ty X99 Professional - All have thunderbolt 2 header on the motherboard for use with thunderbolt 2 card -

Asus have X99 motherboards that use both thunderbolt 2 and thunderbolt 3 cards - USB-C is now being included on motherboards and both Asus and AsRock will have the ability to include this in their future releases.

The Asus thunderbolt 3 card uses USB-C connector [like the Gigabyte Designare] - Asus / AsRock thunderbolt 2 card used mini-display port as the connection.

Anyway we'll see what will come out
I was thinking of a lower-priced Gigabyte board than the Designare, the GA-x99P-sli. Most of their x99 line-up has TB3 now I think. I chose though the x99 Taichi as it has features I found more important for me than Thunderbolt 3 and is, according to reviewers, a relatively trouble-free board whereas some other x99 boards are problematic.

Hi there

My ownership of ASRock X99 Extreme6 has been 100% without the single problem,Hackintosh or OSX installation has been very easy on this board, which I cannot say about the Asus board which have my friend right now

Only thing which I didn't realise, Extreme6 doesn't have OC Socket which is OK for me but would be OK

Other than that,3* PCI_E slots can be limiting factor but in my case is enough

Hope this helps

Thanks, Jura

I think the ASRock Taichi board has OC socket, not sure why it has it and the Extreme 6, a more pricy board, doesn't. Maybe it's because it's an "x99 revision" board?

I haven't gotten into Hackintosh with it, I can tell you though, all the hardware is supported in Linux and iommu groupings are perfect for Windows VM VGA passthrough. smile.gif

Hi there

Yes Taichi does have OC Socket and when I bought my Extreme6 there hasn't been Taichi board out

Why does Extreme6 not have OC Socket I would say, this board is more oriented for workstation or more for Xeon CPU what I know

But still its awesome board, didn't have problems to run E5-2683v3 out of box on this board without the upgrading BIOS, on Asus X99 board I couldn't run as I needed to upgrade BIOS and 16GB RAM stick to run on Asus board has been pain

Hackintosh shouldn't be problem, use Clover as bootloader, create installation USB on VMWare etc,its very easy and if you are need kexts then let me know

Hope this helps

Thanks, Jura
