would like ambidextrous palm grip mouse for larger hands (long fingers)

Hello..

I am seeking a ambidextrous gaming mouse that has ideally buttons on both left and right hand sides... and can accommodate a palm grip preference for my faily big hands (my fingers are rather long .. not freakishly mind you but longer) I am left handed and am interested in experimenting with switching to left hand mouse usage/would like to have the option to mouse left handed.... I have been using a G500 and previously a G5 ... the G500 and G5 accommodate my hand size fairly well but my fingers tend to run off the front edge a bit.. to give you an idea of how big my hand is.

or ?? even better I guess?

(as you can see in the 1st pic my cat likes to play a bit rought

)

anyways I do like the adjustable weight of the G500 /G5 and or a bit heavier mouse so I don't throw it about too easily

budget wise I'd rather stay under $100 ideally.... UNLESS something Really snazzy presents itself.

Man that is one hard request. I don't know of any mouse that's both heavy and ambidextrous and would work with palm grip. I don't even know ambi mice that actually work well with palm grip to begin with. Usually we recommend the Avior 7000 and FK1 for ambi mice. The Sensei is a "last resort" depending on how critical the inconsistent tracking inherent in that sensor is to you. I see you're using a G500 already so I doubt it would be a big deal, but why not get an optical for better tracking while you're already looking for a new mouse, right? But those two I already mentioned were already the best options for ambi that I know of. I use the Avior myself but it's only 100g, does not have adjustable weight, and is best for claw and fingertip grips.

hi thanx for the reply... it does seem my request is more troublesome than I was hoping... frustrating... I have seen pretty much exactly zero that is quite what I was hoping for...I'm considering getting the SteelSeries Sensei as the shape seems "best" of what I have seen so far.

ugh... GRRRRR ... oh well much like everything else in the world it is frustrating trying to find left handed gear.... I really wish there would be a law that companies have to make a left handed version once they sell X number of a product...

but that is why we lefties are awesome.. we constantly encounter a world not made for us and figure it out... and ummm stuff...

Which mousepad are you using? The Sensei ought to work pretty well if the acceleration on the G500 doesn't bother you. The Sensei is a very good mouse, but there are no hard pads large enough for my sensitivity and the acceleration personally throws my aim way off especially on cloth. On plastic it was a lot more tolerable, but I had no choice but to find myself an optical Sensei, like the Avior. However if you try to palm the Avior you will run into the side buttons, but you'll be fine doing that with a Sensei.

That looks like an MM400 in the picture. Or maybe that's cloth and I can't tell. ;p
But more on topic, a Steelseries Sensei is probably your best bet. It may not be perfect but it's the closest thing to what you're looking for (at least that I can think of). Like metal572 mentioned, most definitely recommend a hardpad for the Sensei to minimized the amount of acceleration. Depending on how high of a sensitivity you use, based on the picture I don't imagine you use something really low, the acceleration of the Sensei may not bother you much, if at all. Unfortunately, it may not be as heavy as you're hoping for, but I guess you could always open it up and glue some of those weights from your G5 onto the inside of the shell. Haha.

The Avior 7000 is also a good choice if you don't mind the side buttons protruding outwards. It is very slightly smaller in size and a bit lighter in weight compared to the Sensei.

ugh... I thought fry's carried the Steelseries mice?? maybe they did.. went a bit out of my way hoping to get one locale and / or maybe get my hands on one to try it out...

but all fry's had was a single rival and a bunch of logitech and razer mice.. and some sharkloons and roccat but nothing that looked like it was going to work...

blah blah... I guess I will order a sensei online... hopefully it works out.. thanx for the input (device) suggestions...

Would a Zowie AM suffice? Its currently $37 @ Monoprice and the size is comparable to the Sensei whilst having a better sensor. Fairly lightweight though.

Glue a lead weight into the mouse shell?

They both (vanilla and RAW) have their pros and cons. The vanilla unit is a better all around mouse (better side buttons, better MB1 and MB2 switches, better cord, on mouse setting changes), but the RAW has better software and is lighter. The RAW has terrible and I mean TERRIBLE MB1 and MB2 switches. You hear people on this forum complain about Huano switches, well the RAW's are stiffer than that.

the only thing i don't like about gluing a weight to the shell of whatever new mouse is the fairly obvious warranty voiding that would entail...

still i might just do that as near as I can tell everything is going to be lighter than I would actually like..

what switches do they use? normal sensei omrons and sensei raw ttc?

I haven't taken the RAW apart, but they are not the same switches that are used in the vanilla sensei, unless the shell of the RAW causes a severe increase in button tension. I've put the FK1 and the RAW side by side and the Huanos are softer and easier to press. I would challenge anyone to try and not come to the same conclusion.

Not disputing, but you have to account for variables between units when addressing such challenge. There are a lot of things that might separate two identical mice.

I'm not sure if switches were changed (Steelseries branded?), but every recent RAW version launched with Omron D2FC.

Edit: I had a couple RAW frost blues, but I don't remember the top plate or switches causing much of an issue.

I tested a Frost Blue/Vanilla/Fnatic Sensei on a LAN recently, and they do feel different but definitely not like Huanos lol. As I also got to use a Zowei FK there.

The Vanilla/Fnatic felt premium/well built versus the RAW which had subpar build quality. I really like the Frost Blue design, but the build quality feels like cheap plastic compared to previous XAI/Ruse/Sensei.

so i found a pretty good deal on the MLG edition and ordered one of those...

I will report back on my experience in awhile when it arrives...

I appreciate everyone's input (no pun intended) ... I'm eager to give the MLG a go ... I'm happy with the deal i found (new not used or refurb or anything... no offense to anyone with different preferences / view..but refurb / used mice ...blah.. no thank you

)

I'm also curious to see how trying to swap out to mouse left handed works.... I kinda wish I'd have refused to mouse right handed as a kid.. but I guess I didn't really think about it.. I'm not sure how viable changing this late in the game will be going to find out i guess?.

Last time I tried the MLG it had awful input lag. At that time, the other 9800 mice had just been patched (Taipan, G500s) with the newest SROM from Pixart which eliminated a lot of input lag, but SteelSeries hadn't gotten around to it yet. Sent it back to Amazon the next day. I think it's fixed now, let us know.

I wish it had a tilt wheel like the g500 but meh I guess.
