So I just finished a build and turned it on and ran for a couple seconds and turned off, it keeps doing this and I'm guessing the mobo is the problem but when take the video card out the system stays on but this mobo has no built in display port

Asrock extreme3 r2.0

Am I right? This whole thing just sucks

Check for shorts, make sure all screws are in the motherboard properly. What i mean is start again.
If it still does it your GPU may be dead.

It's weird cuz when I turn the switch on for the power supply the system turns on, how is that even possible and the gpu is brand new just got it today

I would disconnect everything but the 24-pin and the 8-pin, power on, and see what it does

If it works with the GPU removed, then it's quite likely a DOA card. Just my quick and dirty 2cents.gif

Agree with timewin on the video card.

2 quick general tips for all times.

1) When a PC doesn't power up, always a good idea to dismantle everything and try to boot with the motherboard outside the case, on its cardboard box or dry wooden surface (or other non conductive surface), with just GPU, CPU, RAM installed. Use screwdriver tip on the power pins of mobo to power on. If it power on, then there is a short in the case or bad power cable in the case.

2) Since the basic elements to troubleshoot a malfunctioning PC are PSU, motherboard, CPU, GPU, RAM, it's always a good idea to have a cheap spare part of testing purposes. Nothing expensive needed. A 20$ GPU and a cheap PSU will do and are the most usual suspects. Just to be able to see if it will boot.

Don't give up so easily. It's supposed to be fun! It could be something really silly you simply missed in the excitement of the build. I took apart my 8320 build 4 times before I came to the horribly embarrassing conclusion that I never thought to flip the switch on the PSU!!
