couple of issues with win10.

One:
I'm desperately trying to improve my boot times given I'm using SSD and when I used Win8.1 I used to have 8 seconds boot time.

This is a clean Win10 installation and all drivers are up to date.
I'm using an external eSATA HDD for backups. It seems that Windows is searching or accessing this HDD quite extensively during boot, just before the lock screen.
By default the boot time is 43 seconds (either restart or cold boot when fastboot is on or off)
When disconnecting the external HDD, the boot time is about 20 seconds.. which is far more acceptable.

I know there's a hidden partition of 128MB that windows created on that drive but I don't know why and I can't see this partition on Disk Management tool.

My question is, can anyone help me solve this issue? maybe guide on using a tool to see what's going on with the partitions of the external HDD and possibly delete this 128MB partition in hope to improve boot times.

Thanks!

The slow boot time is due to the system detecting pcie & usb drivers during startup. It's complicated to explain, but it has to do with UEFI partitioning and "Secure Boot". If you have Fast Boot enabled, there should be an option in your uefi/bios to "detect only the boot drive" which will bypass the e-sata legacy drivers until the OS loads. Also, if your bios has a "compatibility" (CSM) option, try setting all of the options in it to "UEFI" and then DISABLING compatibility and see if that helps (it may, it may not... depends on your hardware setup)

Whatever you do, do NOT delete or mess with the 128mb partition, that's supposed to be there..... if you mess with it, you can easily wipe the entire drive. If you really want to see the details of everything on any/all of your drives, I recomment Partition Wizard bootable disk... it's free, and from the boot environment UI you can even browse the file contents of hidden system partitions... which I still do NOT advise you to mess with. wink.gif

Every time I shut down my PC?
This is a clean Win10 install. One would expect not to get so many errors. The shut down is done via start menu > shutdown.

I know the exact error you're referring to.... I had the same problem several months ago. It's an easy fix, but I can't remember what it was right now. lol I want to say it's setting "allow the computer to turn this device off to save power" under USB in Power Options or something like that. I'll report back when I remember for sure. In the meantime, the good news is it's a really easy fix.

if you're referring to my post, then I believe no harm will happen since it's an external HDD.

Hi and thanks for the reply.

I use the Asus P8Z77-V-Deluxe Mobo. It does support fast boot since in windows 8.1 this PC used to boot in 8 seconds.

As for the 128MB, this is on the external HDD, not my main C drive which as a SSD drive.
The external HDD is for backing up stuff... why would windows access it that much? I can boot the PC when this drive is disconnected, so I can't believe that deleting anything from it will affect my PC.
If anything, it might improve boot times... I'm sick of Win10 accessing it that much during boot... I can see the HDD LED goes nuts...

Did you, by any chance, install W10 with external HDD attached?

Just on the upgrade from Win8.1 to 10.

but then I did a clean install and in this case, I disconnected my external HDD, my internal HDD and my 2nd internal SSD.
Leaving win10 only with the main SSD.

Weird. I know windows loves to install "backup" partitions where ever the hell it wants when drives are connected. Did you try to disable indexing?

Indexing is disabled for that drive. I didn't disable the service itself.

Here we go again... My PC waken up in the middle of the night. And since I was awake(the fans getting full voltage for 10 sec at startup so they are pretty loud, its hard to wake me up but the damn fans done that mad.gif ) i just fired up cmd and used the usual command to found the culprit:
cmd-wakeup.PNG

What the hell, how is this possible? And the most confusing thing is that i have disabled all sorts of things that can wake up the machine but it still does it. No usable info in the event log either...

Did you go to Device Manager > Human Interface Devices > Power Management (when available) > untick "allow this device to wake the computer" ?

Also, in Device Manager > right click on your network adapter > Power Management > untick "allow this device to wake the computer"
