Maybe they should extend the 'free' update period to allow this awesome update to drop. It's placement is weird and the cynical would view it as marketing pressure given it drops immediately after 'free' update ends.
People are already freaking about having to dodge windows 10 updates as it is. I am glad it is ending so people can stop complaining.

Anyone on insider is already seeing the direction of the anniversary update. Some changes to start, calendar integration with the clock flyout(at least i think this was added after the last update for non insiders) and stuff like that. As said above edge has add-on support as well(will take time for more add-ons to get onboard).

I think some performance tweaks have also been performed.

Thx for the answer!!

Asking for "an OS with very low RAM memory usage on old configs" and "x64" is a conflict of interest.  If you want low RAM usage or are installing on a device with less than 4GB of RAM, you're supposed to be installing the 32-bit version anyway.  It uses about half as much RAM and disk space.  Installing 64-bit Windows is like installing and running two copies of Windows at the same time.  It's not worth the overhead unless you've got a powerful machine and a lot of RAM.

What happened?  With the free upgrade offer, Windows 10 currently has the easiest licensing I've ever seen on Windows.  If you want to lock-in your free upgrade entitlement without actually upgrading, just disconnect your C: drive and plug a new drive in, fresh install Windows 10, enter your current Windows 7/8/8.1 license key, let it go online to activate and update, and you should be good.  When you're done, just pull the new drive out and plug your old one back in.

As of...I want to say the november 2015 build...you can install Windows (don't enter a key during install), let it do all it's updates and update itself to the latest Windows 10 build then enter in a valid windows 7 key and let it talk to the activation servers. Windows 10 will activate no problem.

I actually did this on this stupid piece of crap atom device with an invalid win 8 key burned into the firmware: got 10 installed, updated to latest version, entered in 7 key and bam, activated.

Unless this doesn't address your issue?

Not sure on the laptop upgrade outside of an install-from-scratch (and use the laptops OEM key for windows 10).

Will it take my key after the end of July when free upgrades stop?

Also again that error prevented my laptop from upgrading, help?

Unless they patch accepting the keys out of it. Not sure why they would do that as there's no reason to. But this is MS we're talking about.

Not sure on the upgrade issue as that error doesn't provide a lot of detail. Do you have enough disk space? Are there no entries on MS tech net about it?

No idea, everyone pointing to drivers
It shutdowns, reboots, Win 10 Boot logo, spinny thing, suddenly, "select your keyboard layout", then I get the option to turn off my PC or troubleshoot... Troubleshoot brings the option to reset PC... Reboot to windows and its windows 7 with the above error

Also YES Microsoft is ending Windows 10 free upgrades on the 27th
post #7529 of 8571
For laptop I would suggest an "install in place" of windows 10, where the installer creates a new WINDOWS directory, re-names the old one WINDOWS.OLD (or whatever). So you get a fresh install of 10 but all your data is still on the drive. Still have to re-install programs and certain drivers but at least you won't lose your data. Either that or robocopy everything to a separate drive and actually do a format/fresh install. If neither OS is booting I don't know what you have to lose.

Guys, so free time draws near. Should I take the plunge and upgrade? I can't do a clean install or risk losing anything on my HDD since I have very slow internet. But if this is the last version of it, I won't have to spend more money in the future on M$. I don't have an Xbox. Will my installed games work? Should I upgrade?
