Clean installed it, personalized it, tweaked it, customized it. It functions well.

The cumulative update, required to bring it to build 14393.10 will cripple your OpenCL.dll file so a clean installation of the NVIDIA driver is still required but... at least SFC /SCANNOW completes without any integrity violations in this build! smile.gif

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I updated to 1607 through Windows Update, is a clean installation with the ISO better than that? in any case you're saying that it's almost required to reinstall your video drivers? I'm sorry my english isn't that great, I'm trying to clear things up!

Ill post here in hope of some light.
So, anyone got any ideas on removing the new "connect" metro app and also how Cortana is still sending data (According to task manager) but I have deleted SearchUI so she should not be able to run.

I updated on my desktop with the annoying issues that arose when I first installed WIndows 10. The problem is that since W10 now wants to control drivers, it decides that my igpu drivers should be enabled. When it does this, it screws everything up and I wind up with a black screen with the computer hanging up due to driver conflicts. The only way to bypass this is to hit the reset button and allow it to go through the rollback process to uninstall the update. Then, I have to go through the process of disabling the external gpu and enabling the igpu (bios+safe mode). Only then did I update without issues by using the igpu. I have one of those mobos that doesn't allow for disabling the igpu, but only gives a preference for startup.

Hi smile.gif

Whatever I say represents my personal and subjective opinion smile.gif

Now, since these "updates" are like a new OS, since they are like 3 and a half or 4 Gigabytes, each, then...as you can imagine, clean installation is the best way. And it is always the best way, if you can afford it. I do not use (run) so many programs so for me it is not a big deal to clean install. It takes me less than 20 minutes to install the OS + all the drivers I need. When it comes to the NVIDIA driver I perform a clean installation of it, through its installer, each time a new driver is out!

I'd suggest you to get the appropriate ISO and clean install anyway. You will then be sure that whatever issue appears will not be something you carried along from your previous setup.

So, anyone got any ideas on removing the new "connect" metro app and also how Cortana is still sending data (According to task manager) but I have deleted SearchUI so she should not be able to run.

I have also observed a couple of new Apps. In the past, but also this time, I have uninstalled whatever I could with commands in Powershell. For the newly added Apps I used CCleaner Pro.

Right now I am facing an issue: the App I have left (Calculator) does not update.

Cortana is now Windows Search, I think. Cortana is not available in my Region, thank God!, but I have observed something significant!! After disabling Web Search in a couple of places in my Group Policy Editor, and without having installed ANY of the known privacy tools for 10, so just with the settings in the Group Policy, my desktop searches now are NOT transmitted! When I open the Resource Monitor now and select "SearchUI.exe", I have no Network activity when I search something on my computer! I have tried it numerous times! It does not show anything. In my previous installation, when my privacy tool for 10 was inactive, each time I was searching for something, an Internet address was appearing under the Network tab.

Of course, I'll get my tool again. I use W10Privacy. I'll contact the developer first.

I can't seem to get rid of the "Connect, Messaging and Contact Support" apps. Powershell says they are apart of the Windows system now. I did remove most of the apps with CCleaner too which helped but still can't remove those ones I mentioned. Also, SearchUI does not appear in resource monitor (As I deleted it) but Task manager still says cortana sends out data (For like 1 second at startup)

Windows 10 [pro] has hyper-v built-in now, right?

I don't know if it's possible or not but if you can pipe all network traffic through a hyper-v VM maybe you can install pfSense in a VM, thereby filtering all traffic through the virtual firewall.

I've been reading-but-not-doing this idea via this blog for like...4 years now:
http://timita.org/wordpress/2011/07/29/protect-your-windows-laptop-with-pfsense-and-virtualbox-part-1-preamble/

Like I said, I don't know if something equivalent is possible through a hyper-v VM (or docker container, whatever) but it seems like just the sort of horrible mess kludge that may work...

Any more detailed info? I seem to be having the same issue. Just did a clean install. It didn't work, then it did, now it doesn't again.

After the clean install, it took about 30 minutes and coming back from a hibernate to get it to actually show a login screen (it was just a black screen with my mouse pointer before). Then, I went through the process of updating graphics drivers and all that (nVidia), started installing software. Now today, I'm back to the black login screen, only this time, coming out a hibernate cycle doesn't bring up the actual login screen. blind-typing my pin gets me into Windows, sorta. Programs run, but don't display anywhere but the taskbar. This includes Task Manager. The System tray is missing, and so are the rest of the notification icons. I can't actually interact with anything except the start menu. This is all very frustrating - because I had something solid, but not anymore. I don't want to have to do a THIRD clean install.

It did, but they want more.

For me, there was nothing at all. The first time I did it when I installed Windows 10, I left it overnight and it was just a black screen. I eventually figured out that it was the igpu that was being enabled and causing issues for me. The way I get it to use the igpu is to boot into the bios and have the mobo choose the igpu to display from instead of the pcie. Then, I get it to boot into safe mode. Once in Windows, I just disable the external drivers (NVIDIA) and enable the internal (Intel) drivers and reboot. The update went just fine for me once I did this. Afterwards, I just reverse that process to get back on the external video card.

I remember seeing issues about black screens where it was a black login screen like you describe when I was trying to solve my problem initially. My issue wasn't a black login screen, it never got that far. It would just hang during install. For the initial Windows 10 install it was around 30% when the drivers start to install and the screen would go black and the computer would hang.
