Both of those happened to me in my Windows journey, sometimes the PC wouldn't go to sleep and power on instantly, and a few times it powered on right after i shut it down.

I did not find any solution, but it just fixed alone with the insider builds or a clean install.

Have windows updates/services brought anyone's machines to a slow painful grinding hault?

I upgraded my parents machine to 10 and they hardly use it (so lots of updates need to happen all at once usually).
The last time I visited them it was booting terribly slow, unresponsive once at desktop - just painful to use.

I thought OK maybe the drive is failing or they got a virus (nope). Bunch of updates went down eventually, rebooted and then it was more responsive (still not great though).
The hardware in it isn't the latest but hey a Phenom 955, 8GB of 1333, 60GB SSD (OS only) should be able to handle that.

I might just do a clean install or something for them if things don't flesh out - only other thing I can think of is maybe the windows .old stuff is taking up a ton of space.

Well I did a clean install instead of upgrading 7, so hopefully an update down the road will resolve it - I'm not on the insider preview business though.

It has something to do with your keyboard and mouse device that it's waking the up, I can't remember what exactly was the fix was for me, but it was due to my keyboard and mouse drivers or something.

Try checking in the BIOS or UEFI, see if there's something about power over USB while the computer is shut down. Kill it. My computer didn't have wake on USB enabled but did have power on USB and for some quirky reason, after I installed W10, if the keyboard or mouse was touched when the computer is shut down, it'd light up. Nothing like bright lights from Logitech G510 keyboard and lighted mouse to keep me awake at night. It didn't happen with W7 so go figure. rolleyes.gif

You may have an option in the device manager to turn those devices off to save power.

If your bios has a EUP/ERP option that should kill usb ports when the system is off because it helps get the low standby power required for those certifications.

My work PC kept getting slower and slower, till the other day when it just would stop responding. That's when I said screw it and dropped 10 for good. The OS is not even close to a working product. No wonder MS put it out there for free.

Just go back to 7, it's faster and more reliable. I doubt your parents need Direct X 12.

I have a ASUS Z87-PRO motherboard if that helps.

Also, how do I wake from sleep if the keyboard and mouse are disabled? I just tapped on the keyboard back when I was using Windows 7.

Agree - just go to turn the PC on again and it awakes.
