I have seen them on a few builds, but not having had one in my hands yet makes it hard to understand them.

Is this an item my local hydraulics shop would carry? Or, better yet, Home Depot? Is there a place online that sells them for significantly less?

No idea about the prices. And I feel you on not understanding connectors you haven't touched, I have that problem and I work in telecom maintenance so I suffer from that a lot.

My selection was these ones:

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/VGA-Card-GPU-water-cooling-block-waterblock-For-GTX4-GTX5-GTX6-GTX7-800-6800-universal-for/1972659059.html#60100091882

Because of integrated G1/4" connectors -that connectors without a thread like in the GPU block you linked scares the $%&@ out of me-, good price, copper useage and both use pin matrix pattern instead of microchannel, so they won't be problems with orientation.

After some massive distractions in life I finally went to order these items, only to find that Aliexpress doesnt do business with Washington state.
