Extract and Flash GTX 970 and 980 Firmware - Zoson's H2O and AIR Custom BIOS - Page 403

@zoson
Yes you are right.

I have 2 980 ACX2.0 SC and I m at 1.31[V] 300[W] [1550].
I just modded my bios thanks to the first post of this thread so I don't have to launch any overclocking software.

Don't give any credit to the software volt reader it is capped to 1.275 V for these cards.

Don't they have an NCP81174? (I myself didn't look what VRM they have)

Nevertheless, in flashing 100s of BIOS (literally) and doing LOTS of tests, I've never gotten this card to provide more than 1.212V. I also haven't seen temp increases which I would see (with a static fan speed!) if the voltage would increase but Afterburner just would not show it (as some suggest). As to my knowledge, the SC ACX2.0 cards are volt-locked.

Mind you I am talking about the GTX 970, not the 980!!

Edit: I used your "air bios" as reference and copied the values, eg. into my voltage table all the way to 1.312V....but TBH I can't say whether it provides that voltage or not without measuring.

I would be not so sure. smile.gif
I have a 970 reference card (PNY) and it seems to reach more than 1.212, if you trust AB or other overclocking tools, but it is not so.
If you measure with a voltmeter the voltage to gpu, you see that is capped near 1.2 V, whatever voltage you put by overclocking tools or programming BIOS voltages.

Every card with VRM controller NCP81174, with reference design resistors, is absolutely capped at 1.212 V

Without a direct measurement of voltage on the card, you can see if your card is capped at 1.212 V looking at the voltage perfcap on unmodded BIOS. When you see that the voltage perfcap is flagged when AB or BIOS try to give more that 1.212 V, you have a capped card to 1.121 V.

Find the boost CLK # in the boost table (the boost your card hits) and Increase the respective voltage in the voltage table. In my case my G1 970 boosts at 1582 MHZ at 1.218V which is what precisionX is reading. Untitled.jpg 292k .jpg file

OK finally had a chance to flash the 1443 roms onto both cards, we'll see how they perform.

hey guys,i have asus gtx 980 matrix on 1570 mhz whit max 125% power target.... and i notice when i am playing or benchmarking that when card will use arround max power target voltage 1.21v is on max also but when power target usage will droop a little bit also voltage will droop and clocks of 1570 mhz are same...from there i just don't get why voltage will droop when power target usage droops also to lower %....
say on 115% voltage is on max 1.21v but lower power target say arround 100% voltage will droop from 1.21v to 1.198v.it seams that voltage is connected whit power target usage.from there i have some crashs cos of that....

I was talking about reference 980's. Reference 980's use NCP81174 and go up to 1.312v while only reporting a max 1.275v.

The reference 970 is a zombie vrm by EVGA sold under NVIDIA branding. Also pretty sure it doesn't use NCP81174. If you want to put your money where your mouth is, take your heatsink off and show a picture of the VRM. Why? If it IS NCP81174, we can probably extract gtx 980 NCP81174 firmware and flash to 970 and raise the voltage limit.

well looks like the lower quality ASIC is worse than we thought. It can't even handle 1443 @ 1.2v. The video driver keeps crashing after 20-30 minutes of play. I had to down-clock it to 1378mhz to get it stable... I guess this is what I get for buying at Fry's tongue.gif
