[Scratch Build] Loricatus - Page 6

I really appreciate all the comments, thanks everyone!

Since I'm waiting on materials I did some rough modeling of the layout. I'm undecided on whether to go with mitx mobo + short 970 + full size PSU or matx mobo + standard length 970 + SFX PSU.

Since it's a curved case I decided to make use of the unusable spaces and like I did on Baby Moon, just have a small opening on the back for routing cables inside to be plugged in.

But while I figure out the layout I'll work on the bottom panel and side panels which will give me plenty of time to scrounge up some components. But I definitely want the video card to be vertical to help with airflow and show off my custom waterblocks.

I'm confused. How will the radiator get any air if it's setting on the bottom of the rig? Will it be elevated from the desktop somehow?

Oh yeah, it'll have some feet. Sketchup is crap for compound curves so I haven't put much effort into modeling things. I had to update the model with actual measurements to double check that everything will still fit so I figured I'd share what the layout would be.

The side shot reminds me of a futon frame. You could make 2 PCs and build a couch into the middle lol.

I like layout 1 where you see the PSU, but dont like the look of that short GPU compared to layout 2 where overall I think it gives off a better visual minus the slight drawback of a sideways PSU.

I assume all the hot air will be forced out though the gaps between the plates? smile.gif

From the models, matx with sfx PSU looks better; not sure how it would look with tubes and a res though.
But then, there are more options for full size PSUs out there.

What about mitx and sfx PSU, would this not leave you more room to play with overall?

Yeah, that's the plan. The plates fit a little closer together than I had planned so I may need to trim the bottom edge on at least the ones on top to allow for more airflow. I'll be going for positive pressure so it'll just leak out wherever it can.

So far eVGA, Zotac, PNY and now Gigabyte all have 970s with short PCBs. I think most of those even use a PCB nearly identical to the reference 670. Since I'm WCing it doesn't matter what size the stock coolers are.

I'm sort of leaning towards mitx mobo and SFX PSU which would leave enough room for a full size card and space for a res and some HDDs. I was just hoping to be cheap since I have few spare full size PSUs but no extra SFX ones. I don't want the case to be half empty on the inside but I'm afraid to use a matx mobo and make things too cramped.
