Bitcoin Utopia project support thread - Page 11

post #101 of 108
I might have to grab the U2's off a mate to contribute BTCto M@H and then hook up the old BOINC rig for some actual WU crunching.

No worries and thanks for the info.

No problem. You'll have to see what projects are currently running. The M@H ran in phases, and may not be running currently, or at all.

I cannot for the life of me get this project to recognize my miner or get tasks tongue.gif. Most infuriating BOINC project award. I can get my miner working in a pool, but this seems insane to setup.

IMO, the setup is easy as heck to do. I own a Butterfly Labs Jalapeno, which at first i put to use for bitcoin. After seeing i would barely get enough for a couple of chewing gums, nevertheless the power bill, i thought of setting it up for BOINC, but i did have a LOT of problems, so i shelved it for like 4 months The problems i had were mostly because of the official drivers. I just followed these steps, and BOINC recognized my miner easy as pie:

1. Uninstall any and all drivers from your miner, even the ones Windows installs by default.
2. Install the WinUSB driver from this site.
3. Edit (or create) the cc_config file for your BOINC setup with this code
Code:
<cc_config>
<options>

<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>

<coproc>
<type>miner_asic</type>
<count>1</count>
</coproc>

</options>
</cc_config>

4. Open BOINC and ensure you see the last line on the event log:

5. ???
6. Profit!

Thanks, I got it running. It's not working great, but that's the fault of my miner. I have a Gekkoscience Compac miner and sometimes when cgminer is started you have to unplug the miner and plug it back in to get it to run. Unfortunately with the stopping and starting of work units, cgminer is constantly not recognizing it.

I'll probably run the project for a while to get some crazy credit, but I doubt I'll run it long term because of this issue.

I dunno what your budget is but you could get a Butterfly Labs 60Gh/s for about $20 and get 60M per day ~200W. Or a Antminer U2 2Gh/s for about $15 and get 2M/day at 5W. I just looked, some people have really jacked up the prices on the U2s. Rockminer is another one, looks to be about $70 for 100Gh/s, a little better on power too than the Butterfly Lab units because of newer gen ASIC chips. I only messed around with the first two. Mainly just stopped because of noise and power consumption, plus lost interest. It was just a "neato" thing for a while.

Maybe I will, but I'm more into the science and math projects to be honest. I sort of bought the miner just to mess around and kill time with tongue.gif.
