Can I run a SEIKI 39" 4K TV from a ThinkPad W520 or X220?

I believe both laptops have displayport 1.2. I would like to get 3840x2160 running at a minimum of 24hz as the tv will principally be used for watching movies and tv shows. 1920x1080 at 120hz would be nice to play around with too, but not required.

Online research suggests that both laptops can run a 4k monitor that actually has a displayport port just fine at 30hz, what I'm not sure about is going through an adapter.

Obviously I need some sort of displayport to hdmi adapter for this to work. Any recommendations?

Thanks, do I need the one that says hdmi (4k resolution) instead of the one that just says hdmi?

Its marketing gymic, what you simply need is HDMI 1.4 which is the latest one. Senki doesnt use hdmi2.0.

Hi Guys,

I am newbee here, so sorry if I ask something dumb.

I have a w520 with Nvidia Quadro 1000M, I searched if I can use a 4K monitor and first found this:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/w520-tested-with-4K-monitor/td-p/1395527

So I got the Samsung 4k 28 monitor mentioned in the thread:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-ud590-series-28-led-4k-uhd-monitor-black/5484022.p?id=1219133600805

I am able to run 4k at 30 Hz from Display Port.

I am a programmer so I dont mind 30Hz. When watching videos I change to HD and 60Hz.

So, I was thinking I can buy a bigger 4K TV for a monitor and use the Diplayport to 4kHDMI convertor you mentioned in the thread:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K0UDYLM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

But somehow this convertor is not working for me, and is not able to do 4K.

Can you please let me know if this will work for me, if I missed something.

Thanks,
Vijay
