Ubisoft had a few of its staff visit a school to explain their work, with some truly interesting things revealed about the company who thinks 60FPS 'looks weird'. Someone asked the Ubisoft employees "what the hell happened with Watch Dogs", to which the Ubisoft employee, who was the 'Online Programmer' said that just before they release a game, they have to send a copy to console manufacturers, who tell them what to keep in the game, and what to take out.

But it gets better: the Game Architect said that they always try to aim for 60FPS, but due to "limitations", they have been settling at 30FPS for their latest games. He continued, saying that console makers are pressuring them into doing the same thing on PC. The Game Architect continued, saying that Ubisoft reuses as much code as possible, which could explain the similarities between a few of their games.

Someone else asked if the company was "aware of the negative responses of the recent decision to lock your games into 30FPS. If so, what do you think about that?". The Game Architect said that on consoles, and especially for something like Assassin's Creed: Unity, they have to choose between graphic fidelity and smoothness. 'timois', who made the thread on Reddit, said that "he implied that MS is making them lock the framerate on PC too".

... 30 FPS looks r_______... to play at fast pace games. I won't be happy with the input delay with 30FPS.

MS, please drop dead your Xbox One. Push PC, DX12, Next Gen system. Move your audiences to PC market, makes realize console is just obsolete tech. This is your chance to push Windows 10 along with it.

"console makers are pressuring them into doing the same thing on PC."
I find it very disturbing that MS/sony are pressuring game devs to lock PC's to console performance levels............
Video game companies are not going to outright say that it is MS/sony fault that the performance lock is real...........

People have claimed where being too harsh.
It's other way around, we need to be more harsh on these devs and the corporate types letting them know this should never happen locking PC performance is a crime against the PC Gaming Community!

M$ is trying to keep the xbone competitive with the PS4. The majority of gamers already know the xbone is the lesser console in terms of performance. Paying off Ubi to lock the games they develop lessen the performance difference. Ubi essentially locks the game, so all platforms look the same because basically they are. The '60 fps looks weird' remark seems to be just cover. I dont blame M$ for the deal, but why lock the PC version? Its not directly competing with the xbone. Thanks OP for posting.

I don't mind 30 fps if I can pull a more stable experience out of it... But not because of that. It's bull man.

Really think I'm going to buy your games running locked at 30fps and ridiculas resolutions like 720p/900p when I paid extremely good money for my system to run 2560x1080p/60fps+

For pc gamers it has always been like your not getting stable 60fps? time for a upgrade buddy!
Now game devs are like, there are people with 300+ dollar gpu's wanting to play above 30 fps on max settings?

Screw them! 30 fps for everyone!

No, I remember when 30 fps was like 60 is now, and 60 was like 120.

Personally I'm pushing triple screens with a single 780 right now, and sometimes it works out better if I just limit a game to 30 with adaptive half. Won't be adjusting that until they put out the next round of Maxwell.

I of course wouldn't play a fps at 30 fps, and like being the one deciding that I'll take a steady 30 over a up and down 60..

Wow. Just Wow. WoooooooooW! WOW! Speechless..... You know, I honestly did not see this going this way at all with the arrival of the new Dinosaur-gen consoles. Guess it's time to finally put to rest the 2% part of me that is an optimist, lmao. A bit harsh but hearing this kind of stuff is just....completely and absolutely demoralizing. Because you know damn well that Ubisoft isn't the only one. If it was, you couldn't pay me to care less. But you know it isn't.....

^that always reminds me of Pacman freaking out in that pacman point and click game for the SNES. Loved that game.

Edit: A bit tipsy, first reaction. But it seems sorta off. Wouldn't MS be kind of ticked off at Ubi for letting people know. I mean, not that people already don't already suspect. But just flat out yelling, "MS IS MAKING US DO IT, NOT OUR FAULT!!!!". But then again, MS wouldn't really care as the only people it would tick off would be the PC gaming crowd. And we all know that MS has kicked us to the curb, enticing us back into their warm graces if we buy their Xbox-whatever. Periodically promising us "comon baby, I promise I won't hit you again. We can work it out, we got some issues but I promise I'll be good to you from now on".

Bah. I don't even know. But actually I think they really are doing this. I mean, every other dev group is saying that they have to make it 30 FPS because "insert excuse here". Even Bethesda! Oh no Bethesda. Why!! Whhyyyyyyyyyy1!!!!!!! I should just go to their HQ (live 30 mins away) and demand answers! Get the truth and tell the people. Now I'm rambling. Just concerned....

The irony here is the company that is locking the next gen games is also the same company developing dx12.

I think I said something about this at one point. SOmething along the lines of... Microsoft isn't making the gaming market better when they do these exclusive, lock out your foes deals. What they are doing is paying to remove something that already exists from a group of gamers who would have gotten it anyone. A feature or experience. And now they do this crap.

You know the story of Halo? Bungie was developing it for the Mac before Microsoft had anything to do with it. Then Microsoft bought them and changed their audience to the Xbox.

ANd look what they are doing now with the new Tomb Raider game. Taking it and making it a Xbox exclusive for a certain period of time. The previous Tomb Raider sold on both consoles, so you can bet that they would have released it for both consoles this time.

Now they are harming PC gaming, which is weird because they get $ for each copy of Windows sold.

Reading about all these companies locking down fps graphics just for consoles makes it really look like whole Pc market is going to be stuck 5-10 yrs behind actual tech so in 9 yrs we will see next version of plague consoles and be stuck with that hardware for another 10 yrs this isn't proper but it's almost as if consoles are like Religion and Pc is Science and we all know how that plays out religion will hold back science for thousands of years. Tech will advance in cycles every 10 years we will have to look forward to crap companies pumping out put dated s#@€ boxes. If these game studios can make 300-550 million in a day can't they afford a console division separate from Pc so that we aren't trying to code on consoles then try convert that s#@¥ box code to work for Pc?

Wouldn't it be easier to code the full tilt Pc version then cut it back for consoles. Instead to coding for inferior product then try use said S#€¥ box code and add Pc extras later on. It seems extremely inefficient to do it that way. Either way consoles seem to be more detrimental to Pc market that disease in 80's in San Francisco.

I fail to see how this was a bad move by MS

TLDR What a load of crap! This can go in so many directions its ridiculous! On one end Ubisoft is pointing fingers at console manufactures in an attempt to explain their decision to stick with 30FPS in game to maintain graphic fidelity and increase sales for the consoles compared to the PC community. On the other end we have the PC community who by the right of opinion are scrutinizing Ubisofts ability to design and market a world-class title that can withstand both PC and the Console communities.

I honestly would like to get the opinion from the actual developers on how they feel and actions they can take to create a title that will work for both communities.

Ubisoft, don't shoot yourself in the foot.

My plea to the Developers:

Stand up for your game. The PC version is your lasting legacy. Once the PS4/XB1 are outdated 10+ year old technology collecting dust in the corner, people will still be playing the PC version. It will be in our steam accounts. On the PC you NEVER have to make that choice between Fidelity and Framerate. Even if no CPU/GPU currently exists that could run your game 60fps with uncompressed textures at 4K resolutions, that PC will exist in 2-3 years. Would you rather your game look like a Wii game in 10 years, or would you rather it stay moderately relevant- something that people want to replay and enjoy?

I cant help but think you just hate MS and are blind...considering that sony has exclusives and yet they were devoid of any wrong doing in your statement.

Fear not brother. Where leading the world to 4k , along with stuff like G-SYNC tech helping us along , keeping the gaming experience nice and fluid.

I say by late 2016, 2 years form now we have a real pc golden age for us high end gamers.............. think about it, "Pascal" GPU 2016 form nvidia and plus whatever amd has out by then.
So am sure we have just 1 card can power 4k easy and within decent prices of today flagships , where as 4k max with ever thing maxed will be possible with SLI by then....

Right now possible, it's just priced way to high in 2000+ dollar range , 700 bucks for a 4k gsync Monitor (Acer XB280HK 28-inch) and 2- 980's 1100+ buck worth gpu setup, and that sure can't run Crysis 3 at max ever thing on 4k......

Our time is coming way............ at lest am planning on getting a 4k g-sync for smooth gaming come late 2016 time,
