Bad water pump?

Hello all,

I recently purchased two Swiftech MCP655-PWM water pumps. I haven't powered them up yet or gotten them wet. Upon visual inspection all looked ok but when I turn the impeller on one of the pumps there's a very loud high-pitched squeaking sound while the other is completely silent. I'm not sure if this is something to be concerned with or not.

Anyone experienced this before? I'm a bit reluctant to put it into service.

Thanks!

did you test them dry? if so you probably ruined one of the pumps. if not then the loud pump is bad and should rma it.

I didn't apply power to either of the pumps...never turned them on. Only noticed while doing a visual inspection prior to starting the install that when I turned the impellers by hand, that one makes this high pitched noise while the other is silent.

OK...so I got this resolved. Thought I would post it here for others in the future who might run into this. I contacted the manufacturer...they suggested that I put a few drops of water down into the impeller area and give it a spin...the thing went completely silent after that. It just needed a little lubrication is all. They say this is fairly common and isn't cause for alarm. thumb.gif
