Ridiculous. The federal government does not have a right to force backdoor access on private device manufacturers. I hope the companies involved fight this as hard as possible legally.

Anyone else find it ironic that our governments banned Huawei for fear of this very reason.

Not only that, but it's against the rules, and well, we are a computer enthusiast based forum and aren't a political site. Sorry

You know something...who does own this site? This no politics rule is getting pretty ridiculous considering the political poop storm we live in today IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO TECHNOLOGY.

It's not subject to change. This rule has been here since I joined and most people have been okay with with it. Like receiver said again, there are plenty of other forums that do offer political discussions. You are more than welcomed to discuss it there, but just not here. Anyway, if you or anyone else have any further questions, feel free to pm me and I'll reply ASAP.

There are plenty of political forums you can voice your opinion on. This is a tech forum, its what we all come here for.

Besides focusing on how this can be done is much more important than ranting about the ethics of someone else having the ability to do this.

There is nothing you can do to stop the snooping. It's going to happen, it's been happening for quite sometime. I already knew everything was tapped long before it went mainstream and it will continue to happen. This is because they can and they know they can get away with it. Putting encryption won't prevent them from snooping it. They snoop up everything. It will just prevent them getting easy access to your data. You can have some control over your data but not complete control sadly.

You can use VPN/Trucrypt/linux/Tor/ and use duckduckgo instead of google.

They've been around for over 50 years. As far as I'm concerned, I hope they keep up the good work.

Maybe not the FBI... but yes, the USA is already a police state. Surveillance is all over the place.

Well, and so is probably most of the western countries.

Sounds like a rival for ol' Hoover. Another blight on the Earth in power.

It will happen. Americans are to caught up in their social life and themselves to notice when it finally does. Then its to late.

I find if funny that on the one had, the privilege of privacy and safety is backed up by law, and on the other hand, government wings are trying to demand less privacy and less safety.
They act as if they want to put an FBI agent in a person's home watching his every move just in case he say something or do something they don't like.

Will the FBI director accept someone looking over his shoulder and his children's shoulder and his wife's shoulder all the time?
I'm sure he will say "yes, we have nothing to hide" because he believe it, but once its there, he will get annoyed, say "leave us alone" and be angry why they are being looked at over their shoulder when he is such a patriot.
This in general what people feel I guess. Even if making sure the country is safe is important, constant intruding privacy is mind bothering. It makes you feel unsafe when there is a constant reminder that you can be followed just because you said something a program decided unjustified that it was wrong.

I don't live in the US. But the fact that the market there is so big, and there is a lot of power in the government to push even large corporations when lobbing and money can make ripples across the world, can make things very bad to everyone.
