Thread Starter
hi 2 all. im from cyprus. i wanna build a futureproof rig for gaming at 2k-4k at 120hz with as much as possible settings on high+ bla bla. by futureproof i mean for atleast 5 years. i also want it for multimedia, editing and for pretty much everything. i know that displayport 1.3 gpus and monitors havent showed yet but i heard from multiple sources online (GOOGLE IS YR BFFE) that we'll be seeing them in 4-6 months. perfect.. i want u guys 2 help with compatibility issues for the parts i chose, best aio cooler, overclocking and possible dangers. like if the swiftech h240x is compatible with these cases and if its a good aio. and the h220x. also my priorities are safety first(for my rig),zero maintenance and zero noises. if possible of course. i just wanna overclock the cpu, gpus and ram. not crazy numbers though. i.e. oc the 5930k at 4-4.5ghz. not at 5.5-6ghz+. loool. i plan to start buying the components on december 1st and finish buying on jan so any help, suggestions and research be4 is appreciated and needed. budget is 5-6000e for the rig only. peripherals come later smile.gif
the list i made is this:

1 i7 5930k
1 msi x99s gaming 9 ac or asus rog equivalent
32 gigs ddr4 xmp 2 lowest hz ram
1 swiftech h240x or h220x full kit with gpus and ram blocks, tubings, fittings and everything
1 960gb-1tb pcie ssd kingston hyperx predator or g.skill phoenix blade or mushkin helix for win7 ultimate 64-all drives 2 be released soon
3 samsung 850 pro 128gb for multiple os
1 seagate st2000dx001 sshd 2tb 8gb 7200 3.5" for backups
1 wd black series 4tb 64mb 7200 3.5" for storage
3 gtx x60-x80 displayport 1.3 ready (equivalent to the gtx 970 in performance or better)
1 silverstone raven 1 or phanteks enthoo primo or enermax thormax gt
1 asus 3d bdrw or lg
1 evga supernova 1000 p2
1 creative labs zxr or asus rog xonar phoebus (not the essence or solo)
1 aerocool touch 2000 or similar
1 prolimatech paste
1 full soundproofing kit
1 front bay aio card reader
? fans
? braided/sleeved cables
1 clear case window
1 custom case theme/paint?

thats about it. by my calcs these all will cost me 5300-6000e at the time of buying. i used ebay, amazon, frozencpu, pcpartpicker, overclockers uk and others for the prices. for research ive been using pcpartpicker, frozencpu, rog and yr page alot. and of course google/utube. i dont wanna make any mistakes as i dont plan on upgrading anything every few months. i hate that. dont get me wrong.. and i dont mind waiting another 5 years for another monster rig. also im not filthy rich. maybe crazy. its just my works savings. so thanks in advance and hope 2 catch u l8r biggrin.gif peace

well, i put the xs on the gpus. the gpus come last cuz nvidia havent released any with displayport 1.3. prob in q1 2015. max. need dp1.3 2 game on 4k 120hz. but the other parts are available except the pcie ssds which are also releasing very very soon.

If you're going to run 3-way SLI, I would strongly recommend getting the 5930K vs. 5820K.

The 5820K only has 28 PCIe lanes, and once you split off 24 lanes to run them each at x8, and the motherboard chipset is going to the other 4 lanes, that leaves you with zero for other slots. The 5930K has a full 40 PCIe lanes, leaving you room for some growth.

That's a weird collection of drives you have listed there. I assume there's some "plan" to make effective use of the storage. SSD x 3 for RAID0 boot volume maybe? Why the Seagate SSHD and WD drives? Applications on one, data on the other? The "effective" performance difference between the 2TB SSHD and 4TB WD is pretty small, especially on a system with 32GB of RAM where most of your I/O is cached.

Hi friend 1 advise(from a crazy Greek friend biggrin.gif) about cpu and gpu they ain't gonna last 5 years, with the technology moving so fast i will say max 3 years, but the build seems cool and its above high end so go for it. thumb.gif

yes im aware of that prob with the lanes.. thats y i wanted more opinions. some videos suggest that 3 way sli is "ok" but unacceptable with 4. basically 0 performance. the 3 ssds are for other os. 1 of being ubuntu probably. the 2tb sshd will be for backup of all the os drives, the pcie ssd will be for windows and the 4tb will act as storage.
