First build: Need help with case fan setup - Page 2

Gotcha. So I would need to plug two fans into a splitter or y-connector and that splitter would go into CPU OPT fan slot right?

Would something like this work:

http://www.amazon.com/GELID-Computer-Connector-Splitter-CA-PWM-03/dp/B0067LWQ1C

Or would you recommend something else?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm a total noob and what you've posted is very helpful. Thank you.

No worries! Happy to help! I was in that position not too long ago so I try to pay forward the help I got.

Not a bad splitter, but you only need 2 ports:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812162026&cm_re=PWM_splitter-_-12-162-026-_-Product

$7 and free shipping if you are in the US.

I figured the 1-to-4 splitter would give me more leeway in case I want to add another fan or two down the line.
Then go for it, it definitely can't hurt.

Looks like you're going to need some more fans biggrin.gif

Can't beat 8 ports and multiple mounting options for $10! I've got one and it works great.

Damn. Only problem might be that the Swiftech hub is powered via SATA. I think I only have 3 SATA on my EVGA G2 PSU and need them all for my hard drives.

But they send a 100% signal on the 4th pin PWM line and modulate through the 2nd(12V) pin. Real PWM sends a full 12V signal through the 2nd pin and modulates through the 4th pin.

TLDR: Your fans won't be able to use their fancy PWM controllers to reach minimum RPMs if you use the other mobo headers.

(I went through the manual on your mobo to confirm this)
They are do modulate the 2nd pin, but the 4th pin does nothing. PWM fans with no signal run at full speed.

There are much better coolers than the 212 for similar money. The Define R4 is a great case, but the stock fans are not as good as they could be. I've set up a few R4's using PWM case fans controlled by CPU and GPU PWM signals. Check out the links below.

Which CPU cooler do you recommend for similar money?

And do all GPUs have a PWM header?

What do you think of this Phanteks hub compared to the Swiftech unit?
