FX 8350 H80i Safe Temps

Thread Starter
So this is my first overclock and ive managed to get it stable at 4.8ghz with 1.47v and my temps are hovering around 40c with a h80i.
Could you please tell me if this is safe?

62c is max under a load. Idle doesn't matter.

Max is in fact 70C, AMD never stated a safe temperature for Vishera. BD was 70 and according to AMD Overdrive it's 70, thus we can assume that it's 70.

It hits 81c when running prime95, i think i need to invest in some good thermal paste. Any recommendations?

It's really the CPU cooler that's limiting you. You could probably shave off a few degrees with new thermal paste and additional case fans, but you need a new cooler if you really want to affect the temps. The only reason those 120mm rads perform even somewhat decently is due to the high RPM fans they come with, otherwise the cooling would be comparable to something like the 212 EVO.

Im sure good quality thermal paste would shave off at least 6c, since the stuff im currently using is generic cheap stuff i bought on ebay to fix my xbox 360's overheating

In my discussions with AMD they informed me that FX 95 Watt processors have a core max temp of 70 Degress Celsiud. The FX 125 Watt processors have a core max temp of 61.1 degrees Celsius.
As far as socket temp they no official recommendation. That said, most experts will tell you 76-79 for the 95 watt and 70 degrees for the 125 watt. If you do not agree by all means please call Amd Global Tech support.
