Overclocking G3258 with out a Z type motherboard

I have been reading around that you can overclock the Intel G3258 on H81, H87, H97 and B85 motherboard. I was wondering if any one has tried it and that it does indeed work. I have to get a new motherboard so I could use the advice.

Bam.

Avoid any board that mentions a 1.2v limit. I've got mine overclocked on the Gigabyte GA-H81M-DS2V and I'm capped at 4.2Ghz because of it.

I think 1.2v is common on the non z boards. Watch this vid he has a good combo here.

What`s the point of this whenever you want a 4690k or the 4790k the non z wont allow any oc.instead try to get a good enough mobo like a z97 extreme3, z97 g55 sli,z97-A

Thanks a lot but i found this deal. What do you think of this ECS z97-PK . You get 45 dollars off a Intel G3258. I am just going to overclock it lightly hopefully to 4.2 - 4.4. It only has to handle a mid range video card, 1 HD, 1 SSD, and a burner. I don't expect to add anything else. Do you think it worth the risk in try an ECS motherboard.

Well right now my PC has a i5 2500k. I know it's a little old but it overclocks great still performs well in games compared to the new ones. I love it. The Intel g3258 PC is a HTPC for my living room.

Im currently running a G3258 in a MSI H81M-P33. Cpu Vcore does not drop at idle, that's about my only complaint with it. The H boards and B boards will have less features on them compaired to Z's.

Here is a thread about non Z boards that can overclock a G3258. http://www.overclock.net/t/1500423/non-z97-z87-boards-than-can-overclock-the-pentium-k-g3258/50

I have.
I've recently bought a pentium BOX plus a chaeapo B85 motherboard. 120 bucks for everything here in Russia, without any bundles or discounts.
You do NOT need a Z-mobo and you don't necessarily need a tower cooler. Just a tiny bit of luck. And a drop of TIM to replace the stock one.
I now have it at 4.4Ghz with 1.27V dead stable. Yeah this is on cheapest b85 mobo available on our market.
I've just updated the mobo to the latest BIOS version, increased the multiplier and the voltage and voila. I beleive I've disabled advanced energy saving too. Will give BIOS screens if necessary. Nothing fancy ))

I have a 4670k on a Asrock H87 Pro4. It has unlocked core voltages, input voltages, cache voltages. The ram can only run 1600mhz but it would oc a pentium well. it is media browser server in sig.
