Recommend an upgrade from my Nvidia 720 1gb that will work with my dell 8700 - Page 2

Like everyone has been saying GTX 750ti is the way to go as it is the simplest upgrade and most powerful without a PSU upgrade. Personally, an upgrade to a better quality PSU over the one a manufacturer gives you is always one of my priorities as it gives your system a better shot at a longer life.

I was surprised when I looked up the specs for the xps 8700. When I opened up the case I found a 460W/power factor correction , 80% bronze plus and 2 6-pin aux connectors. But it only had 1 4-pin for the motherboard. I eventually want to switch out the mobo from z87 to z97 or x99 and the thermaltake tr2 600W has 24-pin+2-4 pin cpu+ 1 8-pin+6-pin for a single 970 or 980 or even a 780 Ti.

Best of all the gtx 750 is an overclocking beast for a decent price. Check this out...I think it performs close in comparison to the r7 260x or 750 Ti with some persuasive vbios tweaking.
