If its something new, I'd like to see or be teased by its potentially new socket design, I'm hoping they ditch PGA for LGA socket, have Enthusiast/WS boards with Quad Channel memory, and most importantly chipset features...2016 is still a long way to go. Intel Skylake will be the contending arch AMD will have to face, if they can pull a miracle out of their next micro architecture.

But not expecting it really

Honestly if AMD can come out with a chip in 2016 that'll have 8 cores and have IPC level with the likes of Sandy/Ivy/Haswell for a decent price, That'd be pretty dang nice.

If they do come out with something good I hope they dont drag it down by keeping future revisions locked to the same socket. Dont get me wrong, its nice to not have to upgrade to a new board constantly to have the latest processor. But I don't think they should try to continuously accommodate an aging platform if it costs performance/features.

If anything Intel has proven that people will upgrade for marginal performance gains.

@Roaches , Look up the G2012 socket. You can find tid-bits of information. Like how AMD was producing G2012 and Terramar for FermiLab.

The future enthusiast socket is based on G2012. It won't be cHT 3.1 and PCIe 3.0, but rather cHT 4.0 and PCIe 4.0.

I'd like sources to back up your speculation of this "G2012: , PCI-E 4.0 final specifications are to be revealed by 2014-2015 time window, making it mandatory to include in 2016 circa chipset obviously.

Also Nvidia Pascal makes its debut around that year as well if I'm right about their road map. Interesting times ahead.

When normalized for frequency the Haswell scores about 12% higher at the same frequency as Sandy in both tests. Even if Skylake was 10% better per herz it'd only be around 23% better than Sandy.

Haswell has a ton of IPC over sandy, 12% is low. 15% of more of a sane number, but for x264 (video encoding) Haswell has about 13% over Ivy and 20% over Sandy.
