Not only that but you really don't need much CPU power to do a lot these days, we over compensate our needs. We've got a bunch of lazy gen developers who won't produce quality. We also don't need to be constrained to the x86 platform anymore for games too. Nothing against x86 but our graphics cards are capable of handling more threads these days. It just seems to be a waste Intel and AMD to not pursue something with more substance and shame on lazy game programmers.

It would be nice if games took better advantage of more cores vs single stronger cores. From what I understand, even when they use say 4 cores, they still rely heavily on one of those cores to do most of the back work.

Outside of gaming I don't think most people would notice the difference between my i7 and FX8320 system. They're both fast and responsive. It's in games though that I really notice a difference. Not everything mind you, but a large portion of what I play just runs better on the i7 and its stronger cores.

I personally don't suggest that someone with a FX 6300+ runs out and upgrade their CPU unless they know for sure that what they do would really benefit. It is true that a lot of AAA games are more likely to be limited by GPU. In those cases the difference between a i7 and 8320 or something would be minimal. It depends on the user. I've seen people who moved from a FX cpu to a i7 and didn't notice a difference. For me, I play a large enough selection of game types that I commonly end up playing something that is more CPU then GPU bound.

I just want some damn HSA supported games! Ha ha! For physics and everything else.

2016? That's...very far away. Intel will be at a whole other level by then.

I think that ZEN will feature HSA support ... AMD CPU physics (FPU) calculation is bad...

Ivy Bridge to Haswell ~ 5% IPC improvement.

5% is extremely conservative.. It's usually 8 to 10.

It's literally 13% for x264 which is video encoder that everybody uses (built into OBS and Handbrake etc)

amd is only alive because they bought ati. without ati, they would have been bankrupted ages ago

Hmm, I wanted to switch to broadwell, but now that I see this, I'll give them one more chance. I'll keep my 6300 for now.

They did pay 6 billion for Ati and I don't think the graphics business made them that kind of money until now.
6 billion to spend on a worthy Phenom successor is not insignificant for AMD.

Most people express their "fan" opinion and ignore the facts.
The reason AMD in in this mess is it's inability to deliver on time. Timing is crucial in this industry.
If they would have released Piledriver to compete with 2600k, a Steamroller that can clock just at high as Piledriver to compete with 3770k and an Excavator to compete with 4770k they would be in a different situation.

INTEL lives (better product) because of AMD... without AMD we would still have pentium 4 CPUs. Basically INTEL "stole" AMD tech
