looking for new headphones/amp/dac

State your budget! (Set an absolute maximum or give a relative maximum with + x amount if it will be amazingly better).

budget would be 500-1000$ CAD/US for everything.

State your music tastes

mainly country, some rock and current top hits.

State what perks are highly desirable (low impedance, heavy bass, excellent for gaming etc..)

not too sure on any perks that i might be looking for.

State what products you already have and are planning on using with your recommended item (state whether you have an amp if you're looking for headphones with high impedance for example)

for these purposes the headphones will be used for im using a 2.1 logitech system, and yuin pk3 earbuds. ive got a soundcard on my pc a asus xonar dx, not sure if its even worth using over a dac.

State how you are going to use the item (e.g. out-and-about, at the gym, at home, PC / console, gaming, music etc). The more detail in this, the better.

at home on the pc, and possibly on the ps4.

State where you live and offer some sites that are known for having good prices / being reputable so we can help recommend you products in your country's currency (like Amazon or ebay).

canada, would probably buy from ncix or direct from the website if possible. basically online. and depending on price differences between us and canada im able to buy from the us and pick them up in the us so thats an option aswell

basically im looking to replace my steelseries cans i had that broke and looking to actually upgrade and do it right with proper headphones and amp/dac. upon doing light reading the past couple weeks beyer, agk, audio technica seem to be most popular. i game on the pc but no major online gaming. i play battlefield online but not competitive enough to care about how i do, so i dont need a mic.

these dont need to be super highend as ive got good speakers for my home theater, and would rather invest more money into that then the pc sound, but i want something possibly a little better then "bang for the buck" stuff.

havent put much time into researching into amps and dacs yet so ill need some recommendations on those.

thanks everyone.

HiFiMan HE-500 or 400i, and I'd probably go with the Audio-GD NFB-11 based on its reputation (ES9018 DAC + amp, all in one, mostly neutral solid state). I haven't heard the HE-400i but it's supposed to be similar to the HE-500, but slightly more warm, slightly less bass presence, and a bit more closed-in sounding. However it costs $100 less and will be much more comfortable. Some people find the HE-500 to be too heavy, although I think if you feel this way you probably have a weak neck and soft skull since it felt fine to me.

thanks ill look into those, any other options?
Here are some options you could consider:

HiFiMAN HE-560 ~$899.00
Sony MDR-Z7 ~799$
Mr. Speakers Alpha Dogs ~600$
Oppo PM2 ~699$
Philips Fidelio X2 ~299$
Sennheiser HD 600 ~399$

All are bang for bang in their respective price range.

Different headphones will not necessarily show great synergy with the same amp, so consider it as an after purchase.

And read as many reviews as possible. The audio world is very subjective thumb.gif
