Artifacts with both discrete and onboard GPU

Thread Starter
System specs in my signature. All components running at stock clocks.

A couple days ago I started getting green artifacts on my display. I was also seeing screen flickering, especially when dragging windows around. Sometimes I would lose the display entirely and I would see some sort of "color test mode": alternating fullscreen red, green, blue, and grayscale images. At that point I would have to hard reboot my computer.

So what's wrong?
1. It's not the GPU. I took the GPU and switched over to onboard graphics, but the problem hasn't gone away.
2. It's not the cable. I tried all 3 cable options I had (DP, DVI, HDMI) and the problem is there.
3. It's not the monitor. I hooked up another computer to the monitor and it's fine.

Is the motherboard to blame? Or maybe the PSU? Both are about a year old.

I may have spoken too soon. I just artifacts using the monitor with my laptop. Looks like it's the monitor.

In 2 of 2 cases In which I had artifcats on the screen it was a heat problem and short after the artifacts showed up the computer crashed. I'd watch the temps on my video card if I'd have this kind of problem.
