Downsampling Risks?

Does anyone here play skyrim on ultra with enb and mods in 4K? I was testing out a custom 4K resolution (3820x2160) and playing some games in it. When playing skyrim with mods and enb in 4k my gtx 780 6gb reached 79C. The again, I was running through the water and grass to see how much my cards could handle. Is it practical to play all games in 4k, or will scaling those kind of a resolutions on a GPU decrease the life of it?

I dont see a reason why not but a single 780gtx isnt enough in some games

That's very true. I have 2 gtx 780s 6gb and it still doesn't max out all games in 4k. I've tried to record 4k game play but fraps completely ruins it...

Nvidia has shadowplay,amd has raptr.
That will not be a taxing app for recording.

I'll have to test that out. Thanks.

MSI afterburner also works well for either brand, if you want something a little lighter.

80C is relatively cool still.

I ran my cards through folding@home and Bitcoin mining. that pegs the hardware at 100% 24/7.

those GPUs were only offline for maybe a day or two with weeks in between.

running a little 4k session will cause no harm, ever.

If your GPU's at 100% load are reaching a temperature that you are uncomfortable with, you can fix it by improving cooling or changing the clocks/voltages they run at etc.

100% load at 4k won't really be different from 100% load at 900p though. Any game that has you GPU bound will run at pretty similar temperatures

yep. For the most part, 100% is 100% when it comes to the same application. So running at 1080p with Vsync off, as long as your CPU isn't bottlenecking your GPU then the GPU workload is essentially the same.

I was playing transformers rotds @1440p, benchmarking @1080p+1440p(normal downsampling), and watching movies at 4k last night(DSR). I saw temps around 59-62C but no higher. But I have 3 additional fans in the case plus the dual fan cooler on the vid card. the card idles @1045.5MHz/36C/45% fan, load 1293MHz/61ishC/45% fan. Try using nVidia inspector or other utility to increase the fan/fans speed or add a couple fans in the case to increase airflow.
