External headphone volume controller for Sound Blaster Z?

Is it possible to get some kind of external device that lets you control the volume of the headphone output of the Sound Blaster Z sound card?
I don't like to adjust the volume via software, that's why I ask.

I know the Sound Blaster Zx and ZxR come with an Audio Control Module (ACM) where you can do the above but I've read this ACM is of poor quality.

I don't think you can.

It's possible only if there is a keyboard shortcut to change the volume of the "headphone out"
or if the "headphone out" of the SBz was listed in audio device (i think you only have speakers and SPDIF)

That's one thing that bothers me with creative.
After 25 years, you'd think they'd have some experience in ease of use.
What kind of company and engineer actually works on those product ?
They can't put a set of customizable (global) shortcut ?
Windows has shortcut, firefox has shortcut, media players have shortcut, not in creative sound cards!
You have to use their ****ty gui for anything.
There has been ZERO improvement in those areas in the last 10 years, but they can't stop telling you how their lastest sound card sound so much better than the others once their marketing machine starts to roll.
You will have to wait until another company do it, and at that point they will start to move their butt.

A lot of keyboards (my K70, my logitech G15 before it) have a volume wheel that impacts on the system volume, which since the SBZ can only be outputting in headphones or speakers at one time does to some extent allow changing the volume on the fly. However you may then want to balance the volume between speakers and headphones and then the ACM is about the best option or you can get an inline volume control which is effectively just a variable resistor.

Thanks for the replies smile.gif

Unfortunately I just got a $550 dentist bill so now I have to wait quite a while before I can buy a SB Z.
When time comes I'll try one of those volume controls.
Thanks for the tip, billbartuska!

Ack! smile.gif It's an annoying bill to get, not only because it's so big but also because dentist bills generally come unexpectedly usually.
I guess I should be saving up for these kinds of things.

I sold two amps on eBay for $600 the week before the tooth fiasco.

I got to be both!
