I am perfectly happy with my current laptop. I have no need for a replacement at this time, however being the tech person I am there is always room for improvement. It will play 95% of the games i own at 720p with decent settings and still have a 3 hour battery life (normally 6-8 hours under light load conditions). Discrete gpus give you the performance, but take away any sort of battery life.

It really depends on the GPU, and much less than previous with maxwell taking the forefront on nvidia side of things.

In theory, yes. I used to have the same line of thought.

However, with a few expensive exceptions, APUs are generally found in thick, cheap laptops with small batteries, because OEMs won't put them in anything else.

On top of that, small Maxwell GPUs are unbelievably power efficient. Haswell is more power efficient than Kaveri, and idles with less power. So despite the drawbacks of a dGPU+CPU, you should see less power usage idling and under load with that combo.

I'm not saying you should upgrade, I'm just saying you shouldn't wait for the perfect APU laptop like I did, because it will never come frown.gif

Exactly. I am done with discrete gpu laptops. Hotter and worse battery life (45-50W for the GPU alone best case). The top end gaming laptops (alienware and the such) work around this by being well engineered albeit they are heavy and very expensive (battery life sucks too but they are massive so I don't think many game on the go with those). I suppose they are pretty good desktop replacements with decent gaming potential but I'd rather have an actual gaming desktop plus some versatile laptop. Kaveri fits this description ,too bad models with it are few and far in between.
