High Disk usage

Thread Starter
At start-up I go into task manager and it says my harddrive is using 99-100%, this will last about 5 min. and then it will return to normal, but sometime I'll get computer freezes where I have to wait until my computer returns to normal(about 1-2min) this usually happens randomly, but when I hurry up and check task manager its says 100% disk and then goes down. I'm not sure what to do about this any help would be nice thanks.

Do you use any Cloud synchronising tools such as Dropbox, GoogleDrive etc. or have a scheduled backup planned?

Also, which programs start up when Windows starts? (use MSconfig to see the list eventually)

I have one drive, as for back-up planned Norton may be attempting a back-up and for the start-up here's the list: Catalyst Control center, Google installer, Java(TM) Update Scheduler, pximouse, Realtek HD Audio manager, usbmonitor, and XBoxStat.exe...heres a photo:

by the way I have 29 background processes running and 24 window processes running, my harddrive is a Toshiba 32 mb cache 7200 rpm.

I'd say its the Antivirus, just check you antivirus scan schedule.

Hadn't thought of that, could be a possibility. I'm not sure it uses the disk much though.

Oh yeah if this has anything to do with this, but when I reinstalled CCC(catalyst control center) I always get an error, and when I start it I can't overclock my cpu(fx 8320) like I used to be able to do it just shows to tabs amd overdrive and cpu power and its seems as if it was a bad install because when I click on amd overdrive it should have all of the other tabs within it but instead it only has the gpu settings in it which is wrong again not sure if this is a part of the problem or a different problem altogether.

I have it on a manual scan, no auto schedule and the last time I scanned was the 18th of OCT, but it does say definitions updated today.

In attempt to solve the CCC problem, please refer to THIS guide on how to manually remove all traces of your AMD/ATI drivers.
Then try reinstalling the latest stable driver available. Research this a little for your specific gpu, since drivers can be tricky like that. The most stable driver for me is very old, but that's a different story.

You might want to do a malware scan using Malware Bytes (my preferred free tool) jsut to make sure you didn't pick up something unwanted. If possible, do the scan on a Safe Boot.

AV is virtually all disk access... it scans files.
