When not used or lightly used, what ghz do the FX CPU's such as the FX 9590 idle at? (Power Saving)

I'm thinking about getting my first AMD CPU (it'll be for a project) and I'm just curious. I know the 9590 is at 4.7ghz and can turbo to 5.0ghz but what about when idle or lightly used? How do the cores react to usage exactly?

I woudnt buy a fx 9590 at this point.a 3770k is the same if not faster when you have a 4.7ghz clock.plus the heatout put would require an expensive mobo that supports the 220w tdp

That's true! But I'm currently actually using a 3770K in my rig ;D . I want to use a pair of 9590's to play around with parallel computing (project).

Of course biggrin.gif But I have an IBM inspired build and am well aware of Amdahl's Law, etc. It's just a fun project for myself plus, never used anything from AMD before.
My 3770k is OC'd to 4.4ghz right now, so personal computing wise, I'm fine. thumb.gifbiggrin.gif

You might consider the FX 8370E, it's much easier to manage heat wise than my FX-9370. The downside is it doesn't seem to have as much overclocking headroom as the 9xxx.
The 8370e I have will run 4.960 ghz on 1.44 volts on all 8 cores, which is faster than the stock 9590 on a well threaded load.

Examples here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1513606/fx-8370-e-low-voltage-benching

It's going to depend on the silicon lotto to a degree, but if you are interested in powersavings it might be a better route to take.

Heres an example of how I have my 8350 GD-80 /h-100 set up. The idle voltage is a little high,(1.2 v) but it's necessary to maintain stability when it jumps to 5 ghz on all cores. Also , without a load, it doesn't use much electricity anyhow.
