Need help deciding GTX 970 SLI or GTX 980 SLI - Page 3

Yes! jpoined the topic before it dies out...duwayne,i was thinking the same exact thing as your title.but my case is a bit different and would like your guys opinions. because im on the verge of doing triple 1440 monitors and currently have 1 gtx 580 on 1 1440p monitor.i play my games quite good, idk whats the fuss about fps to be honest.anyway, should i do sli 970s or wait for big maxwell? which should be considered as 2 gpu in one, right?or am i wrong? another thing too, lets say for dual gpu or even the gtx 970 in SLI,please tell me i dont have to upgrade my psu, which is a seasonic x series with 760w.

I'd get the 980s. My personal rule of thumb is to always stretch it a bit budget wise when it comes to gpus, as a few bucks now will keep your system in play for longer, which will either save you money or at least break even in the long run. not scientific by any means, but it's the way i approach it.

I responded based on your first post where you spoke of going 4K.

1440p and SLI 970 would be great as well.

NO need what soever in upgrading that PSU, I have the X750 too and it runs these great.

My system only pulls around 500-550w IIRC even with huge overclocks on both gpus and cpu at full load.  heck I bet you could un tri 970 sli on our PSU.

After reading other peoples reasoning and looking at more benchmarks, i'm feeling like gtx 970 sli + asus rog 1440p 144hz would be best route until 120hz 4k is a viable option.
That's a definite step up. I would go that route if i wasn't so caught up in the 4k visuals tongue.gif

since you are open to opinions and open minded,my personal opinion as well as concern, save your money and go for the best bang for your dollars and get a qnix 1440p monitor.look them up on this forum,i learned about it and absolutely love it. and yes i agree,2x 970s is the way to go.

you are lying right? no way,so you telling me that 2 970s(assuming you have since you said "runs these"),will run both of them fine on top of my 4670k and other components? btw, why do you have a 750 and i have a 760? or was that a typo?

No I'm not lying I've got the 970s yes check the owners club I've posted quite a few screenshots in there. I have the 750 because I originally had the x650 but it died and they sent me a brand new x750 as a replacement.

It used to be x650 and x750 then they released the x760 after I believe. Pretty much same psu I think.

,wow,so let me get this straight, 2 gtx 970s withna 4670k and other stuff and still some room? wth,so why do ppl say go with the 860 or above? maybe to be on safe side right just in case? but thats nutz to me,a 760 is capable of performing that good.
