1080p gaming only. I thought I'd found out my course of action, of getting a gtx 750ti, then upgrade/evga step up in the future, but some posts above gave me more ideas. Maybe a single 290 now and used 290 later xfire is better than 750ti now and 970 later. I'll have to do some cost benefit analysis.

I'm unable to take advantage of us deals, unfortunately. Atm I'm deciding between xfx dd or gigabyte trifan 290s. Both similar price, stock clocks.

I'd go Gigabyte.

I'd go XFX. I love my DD card. Never goes above 60C. It's all preference really. I've had horrible luck and support with Gigabyte cards and motherboards.

Thanks guys. I've done some research and went with xfx 290 dd. There were several reasons. Firstly xfx has 30 dollar mir atm. Secondly the gigabyte fan speed profile favors low sound instead of low temp. Finally, gigabyte pads are directly in contract with the cooler, while xfx dd has a polycarbonate heat sink of sorts in between the cooler and the components, and i want to try it out.

I only wish the gtx 970 were available and not marked up so though due to unavailability, otherwise I'd have went green.
