I am not well read in that application, but I assumed it would at least assist in loading models and such. I could be wrong.

I still have 2 hdd's for games and backup. I use a WD VelociRaptor for games.
I put a ssd in this laptop I am currently using and made my experience with lightroom 5 and photoshop a lot easier.

yeah I forgot I put a ssd in my old Alienware M9750 laptop a month ago with windows 7 64bit (came with xp) and it is way better now and it only has a core 2 duo. I don't use it much except when I leave town on vacation.

Thread Starter
It looks like the new version of the wrapper he uses for Rhino might have issues with hexacores in general, so we settled on the i7 4790k. New CPU + Mobo is going to come out to less than $250 after he resells his old parts. thumb.gif

Thanks for the help, everyone. It's hard to find any solid numbers on niche programs like this so I appreciate the volume of response.

Seems like selling the 970 and ram could net you somewhere in the ballpark of 300 dollars. If he was willing to spend 500 on the 990x and upgrade then selling the old stuff and going 5820k would be roughly the same price.

This is not true. All single socket Xeons E5-16xxv3 series are unlocked and well overclockable. Top of the range wrt speed/number of cores is E5-1680v3 which has base speed of 3.2 GHz and turbo speed 3.8 GHz. Reportedly it overclocks like a charm, here one see report about pushing it up to 5.5 GHz, with LN of course. But this beast cost serious coin which I coughed up and have it on order. thumb.gif
