Agreed. People worked their butts off on this this for a very long time and hope it is their ticket to recognition. They put some heart and soul into a project, and its seriously affected by some poor judgement on social media. It is always much too easy to say "oh, that guys a jerk, he deserves whatever he gets," but how many of us have never been jerks? Just one time in years and that blows up on the internet, your hard work and maybe years of being a nice guy gone away. Dealing with large masses of people is a skill and I've seen far ruder things on OCN go unnoticed since its just a message board.

Let this be a lesson to us all I guess. Step back from the keyboard, think about what you say, and remember that every word counts.

I fully agree with you. Me finding funny the whole situation(a guy screwing it then screwing it even more, hence the slow clapping hands) doesn't mean I don't find it a bit unfair.

I think that Mike Murderberk made a huge mistake voicing his concerns like that, even if it was just irony. He should have had more tact towards his distributor's CEO/God/Overlord. I also think that mistake will have huge repercussions towards his career, but I don't want those to be as HARD as are right now. A lesson, yes. Cutting his head off just when he's about to surface from the developer mud, at such a young age, is HARD.

And of course, I don't want his developer pals/company to be caught in the shrapnel rain. That is unjust at the very least.

But I can also understand how, after all the crap that has been going on the internet these past years, specially after Gamersgate Gabe Newell would react: reads that, doesn't know it's an ironic comment/doesn't care and thinks "Well, good sirs, SCREW YOU" mad.gifbiggrin.gif

You know, I can be the devil's advocate for either part. Internet is at its most toxic state right now, and anyhting done to out stupid individuals out of it, I welcome tongue.gif

That said, a PROPER apology, the old-school apology, would work miracles toward improving those guys situation.

Godwin's law addresses the probability, not the merit. Most people miss out on that very important aspect. xD Godwin's law could just as easily be about the Platypus and nothing would change.

You guys don't have to feel bad for people about things like this... Just imagine that the extra money that would have been spent on this game being on Steam will now go to some other game, to other developers that don't appear to be pricks. No money will be lost overall and it will make someone else a bit happier.

What next? Your husband got caught stealing from work therefore you, as the wife get fired too?

This situation is starting to look bad for all parties involved. I am not impressed at all.
Yeah, that's why laws exist. Businesses tend to act exactly how Steam is acting right now over this. It's just as immature and childish as the guy who made the death threat.

Sometimes I wonder: am I the only person in the freaking world who sees that a business can conduct themselves like a business and have morals? They don't contradict each other unless you make them contradict each other, especially where the bottom line is a non-factor.

I'm hoping over the course of the next week this gets sorted out in favor of the rest of the devs. Otherwise my opinion of steam will plummet like Tesco's stock value. Bad PR is bad.

If Megan Fox's makeup artist was contracted to her, you inadvertently fired the makeup artist.

My ex got fired for stealing and I lost my position since she worked for the same company. My brother stole cookies and we were then both fired.

Morals has nothing to do with it. If he needed to keep his personal and business life separate then he should have done so.

Plenty of other groups do it day in and day out.

Well, there are corollaries about Godwin's Law that don't address the probability, just invoking Hitler and tis or tat.

Nevertheles, Nonehxc tweeted: I'm going to kill you, DIYDeath mad.gif You just screwed my joke. gunner2.gif

Is that 140 characters or less? biggrin.gif

BTW, sensible development. They've just created a Code Avarice account. Personal accounts will be(I suppose) closed or private. Please hire a PR or marketing guy detached from yourselves.

Typically the makeup artists are hired by the studio fyi.

That's called being fired without just cause and companies have been sued for it many, many times.

A personal tweet is about as separate as it can get. He was not acting in an official capacity when he made that comment so yes, morals do factor in and this is an amoral action as its is totally overkill given their overarching goal has been accomplished. (p.s. morals factor into every decision we make, be it a lack of morals, ignoring your morals or abiding by them. In all of the above morals are a factor which covers just about any situation you can come up with including this one)

I don't. Not in the least (for the bolded part)

That said, I question some of these opinions here as to this being the right way to handle it. I can assure you, if any of the heads of the companies I've worked for made a comment like this, on a personal note or not, it would likely cease relations between the two companies extremely quickly. And if it did not, the company who screwed up would be doing a ton of you know what kissing and will essentially always be at the mercy of the other company if they wanted to continue the relationship.

That's not a logical progression leading to a rational conclusion though, that's a kneejerk reaction. Of course context needs to be factored in as well and in this case: the other devs all but denounced Mike, he was "forced" out and will not see a dime from the game. Mike's life is now ruined and rightfully so.

Guilt by association is a stupid concept which dis-empowers personal responsibility. But again, context is everything and so is good judgment. Neither have been applied to this situation as of yet but this pretty much just happened so there will probably be further developments in the days to come.
