[Gamespot] Indie First-Person Shooter Removed from Steam After Developer Threatens Gabe Newell - Page 12

This guy deserves every single bit of the crap he's getting. Making public death threats is flat-out NOT OK.

Then he gets all indignant because his inbox isn't filled with people telling him how sorry they are for him?

Sorry, man, when you throw the first punch and end up getting your teeth kicked in, it is no one's fault but your own. You can throw a tantrum like a petulant child if you want, but just because you can scream louder doesn't mean you're right.

Sucks to be you. Make better decisions.

this is exactly the kind of consequence that SHOULD come from making public death threats. i hope everyone who does that will now think twice....

If you allow yourself to be subjected to such laws then that sucks but, that's how life goes. Personally I'd never live in a place that has laws that allow the abuse of employees.

Not quite. I'm certain he was not authorized to make comments on the behalf of everyone else within the context of what he did. The consequences for his actions show us that much so it's a personal tweet about something work related. A comment he should have never made, yes, but a personal comment none the less. Ergo we can logically deduce that this should be treated the same way a morality clause would be treated in context of models working for makeup companies: he stepped over some lines which he shouldn't have which represents the company poorly and as such he was removed.

I can make comparisons all day because they can accurately depict the unfairness of punishing the other devs for an unauthorized comment made by a clown of an employee on his personal twitter account.

If it's your belief that guilt by association is valid within the context of the situation: well I'm sorry but no, I will acknowledge your belief and then I will reject it because it doesnt follow a logical progression which demonstrates maturity. I'm not denying you your opinion but I will not simply agree to disagree on something like this.

Personally, when I'm shopping for a game, I'm looking for a good game, not games made by "developers that don't appear to be pricks". The character of those who made it is immaterial, unless they are in a position to deny me the use of it in the future (as could be the case with an MMO/always online game, or one that featured heavy handed DRM).

Yeah, if you are going to throw a tantrum, don't do it under any permutation of your real name, or any account connected with yourself or your job.

Eh... "Public death threats" and any other kind of "threats" on Twitter are not really serious in 99.99% of the cases and should just be ignored (or reported to Twitter if you really feel bored/annoyed) without giving extra attention to the attention whores who post these, but many of that dude's Tweets are pretty retarded so I'd say he deserved that.

Guilt by association? This isnt a courtrrom. This is merely an angry developer making a threat, and as such his group was removed.

So lets just punish his group, which denounced him, which indicates they believe in guilt by association otherwise the kid would have been forced to resign and that would be that.
I know I'm not the only person who's capable of differentiating the words of a mentally ill child lashing out at a simple mistake by Steam and the beliefs of an entire company, however small that company is.

This is the court of public opinion and every last one of us is on the jury. How much we say has a direct impact on the lives of the other devs who did not deserve what happened.

This is why I reject your "agree to disagree" statement, you're allowed your opinion and I'm allowed to reject your opinion.

If you're in the U.S. I hope you live in Montana. It's the only state that doesn't have "At-Will" employment.

indie games generally suck. minecraft is boring because freedom with boring mechanics and boring graphics is still boring. indie games are more about being quirky than providing interesting gameplay or story. hey look, it's a "quirky" story line like it could be part of an oh-so-cute and quaint american indie movie with a cute indie rock soundtrack. it's kind of interesting how "quirky" has become such a boring and overdone concept. oh wait no it's not, look at indie rock.

if i wanted to play a game with retro graphics, i would emulate snes or gba games. at least nintendo has more compelling stories and better mechanics.

come at me kotaku, polygon, and just generally annoying and pretentious hipster indie gaming press
