Minecraft is awesome.
Terraria is awesome.
Crypt of the Necrodancer is awesome.
Waves is awesome.
Dear Esther is awesome.
Legend of Grimrock is awesome.
Divinity: Original Sin is awesome.
Torchlight is awesome.

and most of those games have simpler, less polished mechanics than snes games and art that looks worse than fire emblem from 1995 (to be fair, even pixelated 16bit fire emblem art is awesome, the critical attack animations are so good.) because technological advancements don't make you a good artist or capable of designing good mechanics.

i'm not saying all indie games are universally horrible. divinity and poe seem decent enough (though the animations in poe...). but at the same time, too many bad indie games get too much hype for being worse versions of classic games. nintendo still makes a lot of retro-style games with far more polish and charm than most indie devs

Not... you know, "Hey guys, yeah, it's me. You made a mistake. Fix it please? Thanks!"

Considering how poor steam support is, it might have been his fastest option. Lol

Exactly, being 20 is no excuse, there are plenty of veterans out there at that same age.

I think Valve should restore Paranautical Activity to the Steam store now the Mike Maulbeck has resigned from the company and sold off all his intellectual rights.

Valve probably would have handled it more tactfully given the amount of money involved, but I'm pretty sure the result still would have been the same. Valve would demanded that EA/Ubisoft/ect terminate the employee for his inappropriate conduct.

Agreed. He is gone, the company should be relisted.

Hopefully he will seek professional help with his mental issues, ones that he even admits on his resignation page ...

My temper and tendency to use twitter to vent has been a consistent problem since I entered the games industry, and I just can’t do it. I don’t have the willpower necessary to be the “face” of a company. If I do continue to work in games it’ll be as an anonymous 1 of 1000 at some corporation, not the most public figure of a single digit sized team.

Of course, even in resigning, he basically opens his HOLE and says something STUPID so that any company that reads it would be foolish to hire him. As I said, this man needs to seek professional help.

No way Valve would do the same for Far Cry 4.
It's not they are evil and just don't care but that there is a huge amount of money involved.

Hell would break loose but no immediate actions would be taken.
Probably a demand for that person's resignation or otherwise all relations ends.
(My opinion.)

This situation was resolved the best way it could for Valve not the consumers or game company.
It simply wasn't worth the time or money to deal with it any further.

A company's gonna company.

edit:
From a moral standpoint did they make the best resolution. Probably not.
They could have just as easily gave them a very short notice to end relations with said person.

I think Valve still made a good decision - while not the best.
A non-joking direct death threat was made.
It was a serious situation that required a serious resolution.

It sent a very clear message to anyone else who deals with Valve that they won't stand for pure harmful hateful messages directed towards them.
Good for them.

He's young and stupid. Life has a special way of beating the stupid out of you biggrin.gif. We'll see what he's like when he's 30, if he's still stupid after 10 more years of life experience he will definitely need professional help.

And nothing of value was lost by how valve treated this case.
These theories are nice and all, but you're comparing "reputable" company against something weird that calls themselves game devs.
Games devs that publish on twitter "some text" that would reduce to two words with profanity filter.
How can you host games from this developer knowing how he responds?
