[BandaiNamco] Dark Souls moves to Steam from GFWL - Page 3

Oh man you can transfer achievements? Awesome. Hopefully I can still log in to my GFWL account lol. I never bothered doing 100% achievements in DS1 since it wasn't on STEAM achievements. Now I have a reason to play again since I already 100%'d DS2 biggrin.gif

I personally never had a problem with GFWL. I loved the fact my achievements were linked to those of my 360. What was so bad about it?

I only played a few games with it.

Bioshock 2 lost the first 2 hours of my progress because it refused to save if I wasn't signed in (I had no idea).

Dark Souls was a NIGHTMARE getting to summon any friends until Durante fixed it.

Resident Evil 6 (5? I think 6) refused to let me sign in until I contacted support and reset my account credentials (I had used them just a few days prior in Dark Souls). Just what you want when you have a 3-hour window to play with a certain friend every other week.

Those issues could all be unrelated, and could be nothing but coincidences, but GFWL was nothing but a headache for me. The only time it ever worked smoothly for me was in Lost Planet 2.

I hated it more than uPlay.

This needs to happen to Red Faction Guerrilla.

That game on Steamworks would be beyond epic.
I doubt the switch will help with the summoning, It's still p2p based. I don't think GFWL had much to do with the mechanics of it.

Please add the old Batman Arkham games and Super SF 4 to that list.

So will connecting with friends NOT take 1 hour? Or is this issue still going to be present? GFWL didn't hinder the game that much, unless it was the cause of the connection issue.

I have yet to understand why 95% of the PC gaming community HATES GFWL. And I mean absolutely hates,

If Games for Windows LIVE had a different title, like "Xbox for PC" the platform may have taken off a bit more than it did...
SURE the platform was under-developed and used serial keys ( i prefer ), it only takes an individual 10 minutes to fix the most common "LIVE Connection Error" when booting up the marketplace. Dont get me wrong, I absolutely love GFWL and how the achievements load onto my Gamercard. I am second in the world for overall gfwl gamerscore and have all 70 games of the entire platform.. The platform itself is pretty simplistic to fix in regards to any problem. Sure, when you play a game you are supposed to 'click n play' but GFWL being tied with Xbox is what gives it it's juicyness. I really do enjoy the feature that allows me to voice chat with my buddies that are on their xbox360/Xbox One, and GFWL doesn't even require GOLD membership to play ranked multiplayer.

Back to the Serial keys... I honestly prefer CD/DVD gaming over digital gaming. For example, you could totally lose your Steam account due to applying patches that 'patch out' GFWL and even texture mods on games, guess what? All of your games, gone. Now with CD/DVD gaming, the only way you are going to lose access to your games and your serial key(s) is if someone physically steals your games. The whole physical stealing isn't very common. And ontop of that, don't you gamers get a warm feel inside going to a game store and purchasing a PC game as a DVD and not digital? If I remember correctly, on Steam, you do not "own" the games, Steam still does and can close your account with reasonable suspicion of violation of Terms of Service? Correct my if i'm wrong.

I'm quite suprised at the amount of claims that gamers make in regards to creatine an Xbox LIVE profile just to play the game. Does no one OWN an xbox 360?? Let alone the individuals forgetting their credentials to sign-in again on the account that used the serial key. How do you forget an account's credentials?? Write them down. Sheesh!

All in all, I've spent nearly two years having fun with GFWL and over time, have colected every single disc of the platform. Some don't exist in discs and that's what steam's for thumb.gif .... And there are four imports.. Legend of the Galactic Heroes (JAPAN), Bioshock 2 (RUSSIAN version), AFL LIVE (Australia) and Rugby League Live (Australia)..

If anyone reading this has a problem with GFWL on a certain game, let me know and i can explain a fix if you need one.

I believe the only titles I have for GFWL are Arkham Asylum, Max Payne 3, GTA IV, and Dark Souls. The common issue I have is that I cannot connect with GFWL. I have all my credentials and proper sign in (I also have a 360) and I like that it ties in with my gamertag. Problem is, it usually doesn't connect. For instance, if I load up GTA IV, it has to connect or I can't access my save files. What's up with that?? I don't want to start with the first mission... I have a file located on my computer with my saved data. But noope! I gotta restart because some arbitrary connection issue. Yes there are fixes and I usually have to do them repeatedly. Maybe I want to play on my laptop, or maybe I re-installed GTA on my desktop. Whatever the case may be, it seems like I always have to do something to TRY to fix it. From my experience, it doesn't always work.

So because of this, I don't have the greatest respect for the service. But I want to love it for all the same reasons you do. No one is arguing about those features. It simply just doesn't work ALL the time. So let it burn...
