Most Overclockable AMD CPU? (Budget) - Page 5

Another thought
This sounds crazy, but i just had it.

Why not buy an FX-CPU, and disable some cores, until there are 4 left, and overclock those existing cores. Reducing temps, and increasing clock speeds.

Example:
8 Core CPU @3.2 GHZ

Turn off 4 cores

4 Core CPU @ 6.4 ghz

Then over clock the living hell out of it, technincly, couldnt i double the 3.2 GHZ to 6.4 GHZ to make up for the loss of those 4 cores? Most likeley won't work but it's a therory.

What you want and asking is impossible. Just no possible to first hit 5gh on air second not guarantee you can even hit 5ghz on water due to cpu or etc. also you can't go cheap on a motherboard bc most motherboards outside of the better more expensive ones won't overclock well. Last and I mean this not to be rude but you say you like overclocking but than say I don't care what the temps out. I suggest you read up on temps and don't copy paste other people bios bc it doesn't work that way (not to say you do or will). Bc temps matter a lot they will kill your cpu they will prevent high overclocks and so on. I suggest microcenter they are the cheapest for cpu motherboard combos. There for 300 you can get 8350 and sabertooth (or any 990fx) board. Than if air buy hyper 212 and get 4.6 maybe 5.8 with high temps oc. Or go clc aio coolermaster 240l glacer and you'll get 4.8 5 if your cpu can. Not meaning to be mean just your getting some miss information and unrealistic

I know temps matter

I'm not on Air FYI. I just want to know with a good cooler if 5.0ghz is possible.

what`s the point of 5ghz if the performance wont be the proper?

I'm just going to skip the lecture on Ghz != performance when comparing Intel and AMD and I'm not sure how you figure cooling is a factor in performance--you can cool a chip however you want, but if it won't hit your desired clock at a safe voltage, you can't use it as a daily-driver, regardless of cooling. Thus, I'm going to assume you want a 5.0ghz chip just to say you have a 5.0ghz chip, because believe it or not, that is basically the only valid reason aside from benching.

There is only one chip in existence with anything close to a guarantee that it will hit 5.0ghz, and that is the FX-9590. Any other chip you buy will have a good chance of not breaking 4.7 or 4.8 without destroying it's lifespan through overvoltage. The 9590 is the only chip that comes pre-binned to guarantee stability in the 4.8-5.0ghz range.

That is your answer. Everything else is a gamble unless you buy a used "golden" chip and are willing to believe that the seller isn't ripping you off.

From what I remember my firestrike physics score was 7300 with the FX 6300 at 4.8Ghz.

5 ghz impossible on air. Like stated before 4.8 vs 5 you won't even notice the difference.
