is it ok to use McCormick food coloring to dye your coolant ?

I am changing one of the fittings on my loop and I am changing my fluid . I only use primochill pc pure clear fluid and this is the fluid I will be putting in my loop today . I want my fluid to be a transparent red or transparent blue I have not decided yet . is it safe to use McCormick specialty extracts ? I don't care about my tubing getting stained . I care about gunk getting stuck in my water blocks

Here's the ingredients on that McCormicks dye:

Water, Propylene Glycol, Fd&C Yellow 5, 0.1% Propylparaben (Preservative), And Fd&C Red 40.

Interested if someone else knows if that will work.

I have been researching this for the past few days and it is a mixed bag some people are using food coloring and they are saying they had no problem with it and some people are saying not to use it. I am also wondering if clothing dye would work ?

I really dont suggest using food coloring for a water cooling loop, UNLESS, that is the only stuff youll be using.
What color are you thinking about?
I would strongly recommend colored tubing with distilled and a biocide, ONLY.

I want a transparent red or transparent blue I am still deciding . the fluid I will be putting the dye in is primochill pc pure clear . the reason I did not buy red or blue tubing is because I don't want a solid color and the transparent color tubing they have is to dark . if i use food coloring to dye my fluid I will not use any other dyes. is it ok to use food coloring in primochill pc pure if I don't plan on using any other dyes ? the main problem I am hearing with using food coloring is that it mite stain my tubing but I am also hearing that mayhems dye stains tubing as well . I don't care about staining my tubing . I am juat a little worried about gunk clogging my water blocks

Yeah staining will happen mosdef with food coloring or rit dye.

Honestly though, i would go with mayhems just because:), its formulated for our application.
What im afraid of though is not tube staining, its the blocks staining, id rather just replace tube than clean blocks*a pita to clean*

4-5 or more years ago a decent amount of people were using food coloring with mixed results. These days it's almost unheard of for good reason. Food coloring often will drop out of the loop and clog blocks especially when combined with other chemicals besides just distilled.

If you really want a red dye I would strongly recommend draining and flushing that Primojunk out of your loop and using Mayhems X1 or Pastel coolant.

Why use that primechill crap when you can use Distilled water and get better temps while still being pure?

I am new to water cooling and I am just now learning about different fluids . I have been checking out mayhems fluids . I don't want a uv red because I heard it will look pink or orange and I don't think I would like pastel colors . how about mayhems aurora ll tharsis red is that any good ?

I have had a great experience with the Mayhems Pastel line, you can always use additional Mayhems dye to achieve the color you desire. Just grab the mayhems concentrate in your preferred base color and mix with distilled water as instructed before putting it in your loop.

Regarding the Aurora line, be sure to think long and hard about this info from the Mayhems wiki:

"Aurora is "NOT" made for use in a home system. It has been developed for show System's (modding) and Photo work. If looking for a fluid for a Home system / Gaming system please use Mayhems X1 or Mayhems Pastel range of fluids there are fully tested and working in any kind of loop."

Don't use food coloring, it will fall out and stain your blocks. I learned that lesson the hard way on a non-PC water project years ago.
