The 512sp Kaveri is becoming a very tempting low-budget gaming chip...

Still, I would need something like ~1024 SPs before I could realistically use it for 1080p games.

That's not actually the problem. There are two big ones. First, the chip throttles to 3GHz when the iGPU is used at all. Since this is performance between K10/Clarksdale (I think?) and Nehalem, that's bad. Second, bandwidth. GDDR5 7750s are significantly better than their DDR3 variants. Same core configuration, but DDR3 is such a huge bottleneck.

That's tempting. Maybe not a 7850k, but the 7700k is a great deal. Much better graphics than the entry-level Intel i3s at the same price, plus it's unlocked. That's not bad at all for an entry-level build, and you can always swap in a real GPU later on, disable the internal GPU, and crank up the jiggahertz.

Or more likely, it's because there is a glut of unsold A-series chips in the marketplace. To wit:

Good price on the A6, I'd prefer that any day over a Pentium for a standard use PC.

Hoping their Next Gen APU in their new arch gives us greater than 7970 performance in a singe chip package, even if it had 200+ watts of TDP. I'd be all over that. Though there's good chance their next could have on package High Bandwidth Memory to alleviate potential bottlenecks from DDR3/4 which we've seen on Kaveri.

Thinking out of speculation since Intel Xeon Phi Knights Landing is said to use on packaged stacked memory as well. If done right, server grade APUs could see potential use in HPC/Reduced Formfactor Workstation markets.

celeron or pentium would be a better suited chip for that use. Can't beat 2 strong cores thumb.gif

That is good, the 7850K should never have been priced over $149.99

Even the g3258? I wouldn't. I suppose that would come down to your usage/idea of "standard use." Certainly the graphics portion is better on the A6. But the HD graphics is good enough for standard use.
