Just as the title says, I have quite a few games in my steam account that when I launch the game my screen goes completely black....? I have to go into task manager in order to close the game out. I have had this problem for awhile now and it is extremely frustrating. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
does windows event viewer show a driver crash? I only had that happen on one of my steam games and it was because just that one game did not like my overclock on my gpu (same as your gpu) so for that game I put my gpu at the Gigabyte overclock that it came with.
I will have to check windows event viewer to see, but I just installed the new GPUs tonight and haven't had much time to OC yet. This problem has been going on for quite sometime now

oh okay I thought you had your new 970's longer.
try this, open steam click steam top left of screen then settings, then select in-game and uncheck the box for "enable the steam overlay while in- game"

I hate to do this to you lol, you have been so helpful. I downloaded all new drivers erased all my old drivers using DDU. Then entered Steam went and unchecked "enable the steam overlay while in-game" it worked great for about 20 minutes, I had to pause the game to tend to my puppy which was attacking my gf lol when I tried to restart, I had no luck and now having the same old problems....tried to restart computer and load again as soon as I launch the game all I see is black screen until I close it out with the task manager....

have you performed the verify game cache in the games that are doing this?
open your games library and right click a game and select properties, then select the local files tab, then select verify integrity of game cache.
it can take up to 4 mins per game and you can't do anything else in steam while this processing.

I have not gotten a chance to do this yet, but I have been thinking about totally deleting Steam and starting over. Do you know if Im able to store my saved game information somewhere, but then give myself a fresh install of Steam to hopefully fix my problem?

no worries, i did delete steam and still in the process of downloading games....i tried to launch Tomb Raider and still the same damn problem, Im in the process now of validating the files
Maybe you or someone can make sense out of this...
Idk if the fact it says 32 bit in task manager and I run 64 bit means anything? But this is what I see when I launch a game, this particular one was Bioshock Infinite
I think your next thing would be to contact steam and see if their tech support can figure this out.
I'm out of things to try, I have never had a problem in all my years having steam on my system.
wow, that is really odd, did someone maybe hack your account?
steam should be able to recognize your account if you can long on.
how many game have you purchased?
It's just odd how it works. I can log onto my account and the forum, but when I try to get customer help none of my information will register. I have roughly 30 games, and would love to buy more but I won't if I cannot play them
My friend has been having the same issue, I haven't looked into it properly yet.
He reinstalled Windows and installed everything but many games for him now wont work and he gets the black screen like this. He's on latest AMD GPU drivers and I've asked him to downgrade to see if it's that but he hasn't done that yet. It's definitely something software related as all Steam games were fine before the reinstall, not sure what he's done...
I'm sure you have to make a separate account for Steam Support.

I had the same problems when I had my GTX 780 installed, i have been through many drivers, I think its just some issue with the steam software on my computer
myself I have a different user name and password for the steam forums and tech support than my steam games account as this is how steam instructed me to setup my 2 accounts.
maybe create a different user name and password for the steam tech support and user forums.

Alright, I finally think I found out what my problem was. When FRAPS was running my Steam games had a hard time launching, with FRAPS closed the games will launch every time. It was a very long frustrating few weeks trying to figure this out, but that seems to be the problem, which sucks because I enjoyed having FRAPS open to see my current FPS. I have tried using EVGA Precision to monitor GPU stats, but have not had any luck getting the OSD to actually show up. I think this will be something I mess around with tonight once I get home. Thanks for every ones help!!
