For whst it does, I love my iPad, which I hate to say because I am not a fan of Apple. I love their quality of builds (their MPB's are amazing, but I hate OSX). Why can't everyone have their own opinion? I just sold my iPhone 5c and picked up a OnePlus One and absolutely LOVE it. I tried some Android tablets, but I always come back to my wife and I's iPad. We are probably going to get the new Air soon. We only use it for browsing facebook while sitting on the couch, skyping family, take in on the road for a larger map than our phones can provide.

I'll have a look at the Nexus 9 when it comes out, but my money will probably stay with the new iPad Air.

This is not the reason I bought one, this is what tablets are priced and marketed as. So far, I would say only the windows tablets can actually replace a laptop. Android is getting closer, and Apple is really far away.

Personal opinion I guess. I expect a Surface to replace a Laptop. I expect an iPad to do pretty much what it does, act as a large screen, light weight tablet.

I can see myself pulling this out of a bag on a train/bus ride to look something up real quick, where that scenario plays differently if it were a laptop in that bag.

I can see myself grabbing this from my ottoman in the living room to open the IMDB app and look up an Actor and throw it back over when I'm done, where that scenario plays differently if it were a laptop.

I can see myself cooking in the kitchen looking a receipe up on the iPad, where that scenario plays differently if it were a laptop.

The tablet fits the tablet niche. If you bought an iPad expecting an open environment, such as Android, or to replace a laptop, either a) some salesman really made his buck the day he sold that line to you or b) you bought the iPad without knowing what the iPad/iOS enviorment was like.

i like ive's designs, in terms of hardware and ui. he's better left to his own devices, he clearly knows more about design than jobs did. also the new hardware is more futuristic and modern. job's seemed to prefer flashy, convoluted design more both for hardware and software. all the new apple hardware makes me really think 50-60s modernism/sci-fi/space. you know, when people were excited by the space race.

also ios 8/yosemite are both more attractive and simpler than their predecessors. especially yosemite.

50% faster in what way? On paper? Sure on paper it's faster. Is anybody going to notice that much of a difference? No. Hardly a change.

I disagree with this. My iPad does everything that I use to use a laptop for:

- Browsing
- Email
- Media on the go
- Reading
- Low level productivity work (Pages, Numbers, Keynote)

It does ALL of that with substantially longer battery life, plus it is incredibly mobile. If I want to game or do high level stuff, I get on my desktop. It really depends on what one uses their laptop for. I personally hate gaming on a laptop and using it more than I have to, so the iPad definitely replaced my laptop for my personal usage. I would imagine that the vast majority of consumers used their laptop in the same manner as me.

My iPad does replace the need of a Laptop at home if you have a desktop. I still need a laptop if i want to do work at school.

From what I remember at college, an iPad would have suited that perfectly as well, unless you are using it for stuff like programming which is NOT normal laptop usage for most people. You can take notes with Pages, make spreadsheets with Numbers, design presentations with Keynote. Unless you are trying to connect to online services not compatible with a mobile browser or using stuff like Matlab, I honestly can't see how it cannot replace a laptop for most people, UNLESS a laptop is their only computer. Most people I know however, have both a desktop and a laptop.
