Only go reference if you plan to watercool the GPU's, i dont see any other advantage with ref coolers they are noisier hotter and look bad

Reference coolers are typically better for SLI if the cars are close together and they are much better for SFF builds (mATX and mITX). The most important thing is the airflow in your case for either type of cooler though.
